let me translate

"I was dumb to say we couldn't sign him, so now he's not going anywhere (unless I can get something good for him."

inactivity=s***ty

This is how I see it as well. Whitesox.com is about the last site I'd consider browsing for alleged rumors. More of a venue to spin this issue back in our favor.

What Williams did was rather idiotic. Who exactly does it benefit answering questions which suggest a contract extention is unlikely? Even if it doesn't effect his immediate value, it could possible cause a rift between Crede and the organization. Why take a chance with such a public statement?

I don't see anything new here.. he's just saying that he hasn't gone out of his way shopping Crede. It doesn't mean that he's not in talks with a team about Crede, it just means that he's not approaching teams saying he's available.

Kenny doesn't outright lie to the media. He makes lies of omission. This isn't a lie, but could be a lie of omission.

If he says that Crede's not being shopped, well Crede's not being actively shopped.

Does that mean that Crede will stay with the Sox this year? Not necessarily.

Kenny would be dumb if he didn't listen to all offers for players, but he doesn't have to accept those offers. It's very difficult to make the '07 Sox a better club in the absence of Crede, and that's why I think Crede will still be with the Sox on opening day, no matter what KW says to the media.

Here's another link to a Daily Herald article about the same topic:

My take is KW had spoken with the Angels and Crede was mentioned as being available a few weeks ago when the GM's met in FL. The Angels side probably talked to the media recently, saying that they could get Crede--with possible players from their side that could come to the sox. If there is anything to make a deal there, it'll happen at the winter meetings.

i concur. with this team we need to go for it all this year and not worry about 2-3 years down the road.

We better load up if we deal Crede....we go from one of the best 3rd basemen in the league to big fat question mark. Know that I like Fields, he's a great kid and in time will be a solid ML 3rd baseman, but didn't we go through this last year in CF?

A deal to move Crede better be stacked coming back...

I think he will stay becasue he is an integral part of a championship team. He is getting better in the field (if that's possible) and at the plate. he is young and can provide stability at 3B for years. It has been discussed that Josh Fields can move to LF. Josh is not the caliber of fielder that Crede is and is an unproven talent. Just because Scott B is the agent for Crdde is no reason not to try and sign Joe. Trding Joe away is simply the first move in revbuilding a team that doesn't need to be rebuilt. Now, will the Sox entertain offers? Sure they will and they will on all PLAYERS. JUST DON'T TRADE FOR THE SAKE OF TRADING.

I feel the same way, but would you pay Joe 16 million a year? Aramis supposedly took a discount to stay on the northside for 5 years 75 million. Boras will start higher than 5 years 80 million for Crede. I don't think KW wants to trade him but he doesn't want to lose him for nothing and he just isn't worth that kind of money. KW will give Joe a chance to be very very rich and stay with the Sox. If he declines to extend, I trust KW to do what he thinks is best to keep the Sox World Series contenders. As long as the Sox have a payroll >100 million, I refuse to call that a cheap move.

IMO, if the sox trade Joe it's not a rebuilding move by any means. It's a move for the present and for the future. While the defense and offense would take a bit of a hit right away, the pitching would probably be better. Add in the financial aspects of the deal [saving $11 mill the first yr, many more after that---which the sox could then add another position player in 08 like a SS] and who the sox could add to the bullpen with the savings, it wouldn't hurt the sox in the short or long term.
