White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Ron Mackowiak wouldn't play any center field next season.

 

Mackowiak rarely played anywhere but center last season, as Guillen chose to go with Alex Cintron whenever an infielder needed a day off. Mackowiak make 62 starts in the field last season and 51 came in center. Nine of the remaining 11 came in the outfield corners. Guillen has a history of saying things in the offseason and then changing his mind once the games begin to count. He has the right idea now -- Mackowiak is a far better choice at third and the outfield corners than he is in center -- but old habits are hard to break.

The Mets still make a lot of sense, as everyone knows, especially if they don't nab Zito. Apparently the Giants are making a push for Zito; I hope they grab him, as nothing from San Fran and the Sox aren't a fit to make a trade.

 

But back to the Mets. If it's Garcia who's going, I want Milledge + Heilman. If it's either Vazquez or Buehrle, Humber or Pelfrey have to be included.

I certainly think there's 2 possible scenarios to help Terrero make the ballclub;

 

Pods is moved for prospects or a backup catcher, with Iguchi the new leadoff hitter.

 

OR

 

Cintron or Ozuna is traded, to help open up more playing time on the infield for Mack. Or Mack could be moved himself, because if he's not going to play CF, then unless he's a platoon partner at say LF, it's going to be hard to get him enough AB's.

The fact that Ozzie admits Mack is a poor choice in center indicates what we've been speculating for months, that Ozzie knew Anderson in center is the best option he had, yet he let personal bias trump what was best for the team's success.

Well if it only took him this long to learn from this mistake, hopefully any day now he will learn when to pull a pitcher when they're gassed and how to properly manage a bull pen.

I like Mackowiak, but I'd look into moving him to the Brewers for Miller to solve our backup catcher hole. I do not know how that would fit, but the salaries are similar.

I've heard good things about Miller and handling a pitching staff. Regardless, Mack is starting to look like an expensive player that could be replaced with Sweeney or a cheaper backup outfielder with better D. He's a grinder and I'd hate to see him go, but exploring a trade makes sense to me.

Same here. I can't remember the last time a White Sox prospect produced right away.

Ozzie clearly let's personal bias take precedence over what is best for the team. It's obvious in the way he twists what McCarthy says to reporters. B-Mac says that he'd be more useful in the rotation than he'd be in the bullpen, and Ozzie says McCarthy is demanding that he start. Ozzie's basically just a douchebag that wants his way or the highway, but he's a douchebag that's won a WS, so I don't know.
