Im one of the biggest Kenny fanboys, and even I can say Williams looks awful right now.

Didn't he say he wouldn't make any moves that wouldn't make us better in 2007? This isn't the time for the Sox to be going about things like a middle market team. There's too much at risk with the momentum in the city we've established.

Cause at least we'd be getting a 4th outfielder that could help against LHP. This is a disasterous trade...Gavin Floyd stinks. I would have rather we keep Garcia and then risk losing him after this season.

Maybe another GM is an idiot and thinks Floyd is worth something (You know, like the best available starter through trade)?

That's the best I can hope for right now because this deal looks absolutely terrible. If Rowand isn't involved, we didn't get ANYTHING that helps the team right now. If he is involved, then we at least have a 4th OFer...unless they trade Anderson for a High A-ball closer.

Floyd is not worthless...if he is, so is Brian Anderson, they both are 23 and they both faired poorly in first taste of major league action.

23 years old...Floyd looks to me like the Brian Anderson of pitching, which could be crap or could still be damn good.

I don't like being right in this instance, but I'll say this -- I knew Williams would f*** up any potential deal for a starting pitcher. Santo, you can freely browse through my posts if you wish.

I just KNEW that when it came down to trading someone, we'd likely force whichever team acquiring said starter to eat nearly the entire salary. I don't even know that for a fact and I'll guaran-f***ing-tee that's exactly the circumstance. We were too cheap to take on Garcia's salary, so in return, Philadelphia dramatically lessened their proposal.

It's embarrassing to watch this unfold. Explain to me how ANYONE -- especially in this pitching market -- can receive only Floyd and Gonzalez for Freddy GArcia? I'll remember this package when we're attempting to acquire a starting pitcher of Garcia's calibur in his walk year, and Williams (or whomever else) overpays for them.

The only way I'll redeem Williams for this move is if he absolutely rapes another team for an assortment of pitching prospects. By pitching prospects I mean Pelfrey, Danks, Hurly.

Bad trade. Plain and simple. We could have gotten much more if we would have waited, There is a lot of teams looking for starting pitching and after they are all gone, someone was sure to overpay. Kenny Williams said he was not desperate to make a move, well he looked very despertate.

I'm not sure this trade helps us in the future either. Unless they are flipped for a real valuable piece this trade is just terrible.

well gio could help in the future for sure... but now it makes the thome trade look really bad... Rowand, Garcia and Haigwood for Thome and Floyd???? ......

I'm not gonna pass judgement on this trade yet because it's too early.

On Floyd, his value is down yes, but KW and Coop have obviously seen something in him. He was a borderline top 10 prospect a couple of seasons back. He has good stuff, and the Sox must think they can fix ALA Matt Thornton.

If that happens, it's a real good trade for the Sox, because they could end up with 2 starters who could fixtures in the Sox's rotation for the next decade.

And that's IF they keep both of them. My guess is both are traded for Rocco Baldelli, who's available.

To be honest, I sorta doubt there is an impending trade right now. I mean, there's too much risk in taking on these guys without having a deal already in place.

Unless this is already a three-way deal and we are only hearing about one-half of it, I don't think another deal is happening right now.

I like it!

Gio had a great year last year and i felt he was our best prospect last year...

so garcia and rowand for Thome

Not quite...we also gave them Dani Haigwood...not quite as electirc as Gio, but a solid top 10 prospect, at least in our org.

Totally dead on. I feel like, during the past week, we've just heard Williams cry over and over about how out of whack the market is. I felt like we were being set up for some mid-market bull move, and sure enough, here it is. Even if that 10 million from Garcia gets re-invested into the team, it's net neutral for payroll -- just the way you think when you're a mid-market ballclub. Silliness.

you are right 17 wins sucks ass esspecially in this inflated desperate for pitching market. gimme a break fathom.

Do you think any team is going to give up the farm in order to trade for him and give him a 3/40 million extension when his fastball is 88 mph?

QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 03:55 AM)
This trade still leaves the Sox with 6 starteing pitchers. It doesn't seems Floyd has anything more to prove in the minors. I think there will be more to come.

On no planet should Floyd be starting in the AL.

Even if that's the case, Floyd should still have been available on the cheap, and KW should have been able to get something else as well. I just can't imagine that KW asked for Lackey then settled for this deal.
