Spamming Email

I assume they are fishing for good addresses, but why do spammers send out nonsensical emails? It's just gibberish.

That was the thread that ran through everything, but, true thread or false, it was so goddam silly. It would not do to forget the simple fact that he was risking his life every time he left his room. "Her tenderness did not extend to leaving the bedroom door unlocked, but this presented no problem.

The reason to send out nonsense emails is to try to get around spam filters that look for specific words or phrases. Some things with specific phrases or words will be able to get through.

Balta is right on.

 

This is a technique known as image based spam. For the most part the text you see is pointless, the small gif is the payload. It usually has some stock crap, or some other point of sale crap. The funny thing is some of these spammers have used animated gif's which have the word BUY BUY BUY every 3rd frame. Kind of reminds you of the old subliminal marketing in the old movie theaters. These spams are generated from botnets and are hard for spam filters to isolate.
