Rex Kickass
The hardest working man in showbiz is taking a permanent vacation. Passed away from pneumonia yesterday morning. I saw the Godfather of Soul in 2001, at a casino in Michigan. Truly one of the best concerts I have ever seen. RIP.

greasywheels121
Crazy. He was performing in Bloomington just a couple months ago. RIP.
Yoda
Music has lost a very big idol. He’s a founding father to several genres of music and the impact he has had on music is still felt to this very same day. RIP James Brown.
Felix
I saw him a couple years ago, always a great performer. I even had tickets to a show of his this year on the 30th.. its a real shame. RIP to the Godfather of Soul.

redandwhite
I can't believe he died, as Greasy indicated, he was playing in Bloomington just over a month ago. He also had performances scheduled for this week. It's too bad.

Rex Kickass
Pneumonia actually. James Brown will lie in state at the Apollo Theater. http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?s...1&aid=65385 He also used WGBH TV in Boston to keep race riots from breaking out there after Martin Luther King's assasination. http://main.wgbh.org/saybrother/history.html But it was not until Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated in April 1968 that a larger commitment to black programming was made. The night after Dr. King was killed, WGBH, at the urging of City Councilor Thomas Atkins and Boston Mayor Kevin White, produced a special concert at the Boston Garden. Soul legend James Brown was the entertainment. This concert was credited with helping to keep Boston calm, unlike other cities where the streets blazed with fire. hammerhead johnson
RIP to an all-time great. This guy absolutely ran the show back in the late 60s/early 70s from a soul/funk/jazz fusion standpoint. And from a sampling standpoint, nobody was more important to golden age hip hop than this guy. He is a god in old school and late 80s/early 90s hip hop circles. Some of my favorites: Bring It Up (from "Sings Raw Soul" 1967) Soul Pride (from "The Popcorn" 1969) Give It Up Or Turn It Loose (from "Ain't It Funky" 1970) Ain't It Funky (from "Ain't It Funky" 1970) Nose Job (from 'Ain't It Funky" 1970) Funky Drummer (1970 Single) Funky Drummer Reprise (1970 Single) Give It Up Or Turn It Loose Remix (1970 Single) Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved (1970 Single) Super Bad (1970 Single) Get On The Good Foot (from "Get On The Good Foot" 1972) The Boss (from "Black Caesar" 1973)
