Jordan4life_2007
Why the hell would the D-backs be interested? And the Yankees better be prepared to pay ALL of that $16 million he's owned next year if they're really serious about trading him. LowerCaseRepublican
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) Why the hell would the D-backs be interested? Nostalgia tour, the NL being much easier to pitch in and quite realistically the D-Bax GM had waaaaay too much egg nog these past few days. southsider2k5
LMAO. Remember how badly KW wanted the Big Unit ? Beware of mancrushes...
Baines3
I don't think we have to worry about KW trading for the big unit anymore.
redandwhite
If the Yankees get anything of value for the Unit without paying a subtantial amount of the $16 million he's owed next season, I'll be more angry than when they traded Sheffield to the Tigers. Why? How much worse was he last year than Freddy Garcia? The Sox got Gio for Garcia and Floyd who people on this board think will be the 5th starter, and most think they didn't get enough. The Sox got Gio for Garcia and Floyd who people on this board think will be the 5th starter, and most think they didn't get enough. Randy Johnson makes $7 million more than Garcia next year, is more than 10 years older, is spending his offseason rehabbing from major surgery, and had an ERA of 5.00 last year (not to mention the fact that Garcia at least showed some hope with that split finger pitch down the stretch). YASNY
San Diego right now appears to be the most likely destination for the five-time Cy Young Award winner, but the Dodgers, Angels and Diamondbacks are all said to be in the mix. One of the officials, familiar with the ongoing discussions, used the phrase "several bona fide offers" to describe what the Yankees are mulling and said the Yankees probably would not have to include any money. In exchange for Johnson, it's possible the Yankees could be looking at San Diego reliever Scott Linebrink, a righthander they've always liked. Balta1701
Yankees complete a 5 year, $20 million deal with Japanese pitcher Kei Igawa. This gives the Yankees 5 starters, then the 2 rookies, and Pavano, so they're in a good position to deal away a starter if they want. Dick Allen
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) Randy Johnson makes $7 million more than Garcia next year, is more than 10 years older, is spending his offseason rehabbing from major surgery, and had an ERA of 5.00 last year (not to mention the fact that Garcia at least showed some hope with that split finger pitch down the stretch). I'm sure anyone who trades for him will have a pretty complete exam of his back before the deal is finalized. Johnson is actually 13 years older than Freddy, but he throws harder, and with both, you're looking at a 1 year thing, so the age thing really doesn't matter. Other than that, the post I initially responded to was one that said the Yankees shouldn't be able to get anything for Johnson. If Gil Meche can score $55 million, some team would be willing to take a 1 year $16 million gamble on a future HOFer who has won 34 games the last 2 seasons.
