The Fox station in Des Moines and CBS station in Cedar Rapids are gonna be pulled from cable tonight unless someone steps in....which means we need an antenna to watch the playoff games....or a dish.

This sucks.

Iowa gets cable?

Why don't you just weave together some corn stalks and silk and hook one endup to the rooster-shaped weather vane on top of your grain silo and the other end to your old Zenith "Porthole" television? That should work just fine.

Bahahahahahahaha! Ha! HAHahahahhahahahha! Hahahahahah! Ha! HA HA!

Looks like you are gonna have to drive to the local (local=hour drive) Walmart to pick up an antenna for your tv.

The cable company is handing them out for free, but it looks like a number of stations will be pulled off of Mediacom cable tonight in Illinois and Missouri too.

Yeah, it'll be hilarious to any Bears fans in Des Moines that want to watch their playoff game. This also means Hawkeye games won't be on cable in most of the state.

Yes.

Mediacom cable and Sinclair Broadcasting (owner of KDSM Fox in Des Mones and KGAN CBS in Cedar Rapids, as well as like 20 other stations nationally) have not agreed on rates or whatever to carry the station, so Sinclair is ordering their stations pulled from Mediacom cable in these markets. Some cities far away enough from the towers can get national feeds or feeds from neighboring markets, but here, we're SOL. We've got rabbit ears to watch the Colts game tomorrow. When I head back to Ames, I won't be able to watch the NFC playoffs.

It's been said that Sinclair has had similar disputes with other major cable companies before, and that they are asking for a good deal more than market value. Mediacom claims they have offered the same deal to Sinclair as Sinclair has signed with another cable provider, consequently making Sinclair their highest paid channels. Mediacom has said that the FOX stations have done nothing to warrant such a ludicrous deal, such as popular local programming. It will likely be resolved eventually, but Sinclair Broadcasting is trying to bully Mediacom as it has tried others.
