Backup CF

So i was reading an article about a veteran CF and thought that his presence here may actually be something KW should consider. Bernie WIlliams is most likely gone from the Yankees and he would be a guy who could serve as a good backup to BA. He be cheap and would be willing to sign a 1-2 year deal. He is not the sameplayer he was but he'd be good for a .280 BA ( i believe he hit .281 last year) and 10HR and 60RBI. Plus, he's a solid veteran who knows his career is now one of a bench player. I'd much rather have him here than Terrero or have one of OWens/Sweeney here as a backup when they could still be progressing at Charlotte. It'd be a situation where BA could play something like 100 games and Williams 60 with BA coming in late as a defensive replacement when he didnt start (provided the games were close). I dont think it is a crucial move, but its one where I think it would actually make sense.

as long as you don't need Bernie for more than 200 ABs, I like the idea.

The White Sox came pretty close to acquiring Bernie back when the Yankees used to trade all of their prospects. At this point he would be Carl Everett-esque in CF. He's been pretty bad there a few years now, but its probably better defense than Mackowiak gave you there.

If Kenny wants to see defense arguably worse than Mackowiak's in CF last year, than Bernie would be a great pickup.

Would somebody please remind me of the last time the Sox had a "true" back up CF? I'm guessing 2003 with Rowand, but they didn't have a "true" everyday CF at the time.
