It was funny, sure, but it just another attempt at Wes Anderson humor. And Anderson's movies are superior in EVERY way (screenplay, comedy and especially aesthetics), yet, he's never been nominated for ANYTHING. Kid Gleason Posted January 22, 2007 Share Posted January 22, 2007 I saw Little Miss Sunshine last night. I thought it was supposed to be funny? I chuckeled a couple of times, but that was about it. Dang thing was a drama more than anything else. I had also heard, and was kind of lead to believe it was a pretty harmless movie. Boy...my 9 year old was a little shocked at times! LOL!!! She had sat down and started to watch it when my wife checked and told me it was rated "R". We let her stay, but watched very close and had her go into "earmuff" mode at times. I'm not defending it here either, but I didn't think it was in anyway close to Wes Anderson humor. It was more of a drama than anything and I think Wes Anderson has a very distinct style of humor, and Little Miss Sunshine didn't remind me of it. He bugs the crap out of me - stop obsessing with production design and actualy tell a story about real characters. He couldn't write his way out of a paper bag. But enough about him... I wouldn't be surprised to see LMS nominated for Best Picture - it's the indie film of choice this year, and honestly it HAS been a weak year for film all around. Departed, Dreamgirls, & Babel seem like no brainers, but Dreamgirls to me was all style and no substance. Departed was ok, and I haven't seen Babel yet. The Queen might be nominated, but to me that film was less of a complete film and more of a one-woman play. The Academy does love good performances by old people, so Mirren seems a lock, but I'm not sure about the movie. Letters from Iwo Jima will get Foreign Language film, but maybe not Best Picture. My two favorite movies will probably not get nominated - Children of Men and Borat. How does Sacha Cohen not get nominated? And while we're talking about acting nods, Jennifer Hudson was on the screen more than Beyonce, how is she a SUPPORTING actress? Whatever.... DEFINATELY see TLKOS, it's not an action film. Based on a Scotish physician's experiences as Idi Amin's personal doctor/advisor. I haven't seen 'Babel' since I read a review that said it was 'Crash' on a global scale. Heres a few more reviews, decide for yourself. I haven't seen the last King of Scotland, but I may drive up and see it. Babel was not good. It was just really pretentious. I don't know if this makes sense, but it wasn't a movie that was made for people to watch and enjoy, it was made for award season. I wouldn't recommend seeing it unless you're on a quest to see all the big pictures of the year. Otherwise save yourself 2.5 hours. There's my 2 cents Jason.
