At the end, they stood and cheered. So this is how liberty dies, to the sound of thunderous applause.
Soxbadger
Technically not a dictator as he was elected and does not have absolute power in Venezuala. . If in 6 years he is not re-elected but remains in power he will "officially" be a dictator.
southsider2k5
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) Technically not a dictator as he was elected and does not have absolute power in Venezuala. . If in 6 years he is not re-elected but remains in power he will "officially" be a dictator. With the power to rule by decree, you might as well call him a dictator. He answers to no one now. Soxbadger
But does it give him the power to be above the law? That is really the most important question of a dictator. IE: Could he legally rewrite the laws to say that he never has to be re-elected, or does this law still preserve some restraints on his power. I dont know, just from the article it does not seem to be stating that he has unlimited absolute power, yet.
