DBAHO
Once again showing what a fantastic GM Bill Bavasi is; Mariners designated RHP Yorman Bazardo for assignment. Not a good idea. Bazardo has a better arm than half the pitchers on the Mariners' 40-man roster and just managed a 3.64 ERA as a 21-year-old in Double-A (he turned 22 in July). Bill Bavasi obviously didn't anticipate the roster crush when he added both Michael Garciaparra and potential lefty specialist Ryan Rowland-Smith to the 40-man prior to the Rule 5 draft. Both are less valuable properties than Bazardo, as is Sean White, the right-hander Seattle took from the Braves in the Rule 5 draft. We can't imagine Bazardo making it through waivers. Now our 40 man roster is full at the moment, IIRC. Bazardo would be the type of young arm I'd like to stash on there, so who could we possibly bump off to make this happen? Kalapse
Terrero is probably the most logical choice, I really don't see why Andy Gonzalez should be taking up a spot on the 40, Rogowski could finally be moved seeing as his only real future with the Sox is in Charlotte this could be a good time to finally cut ties with him. Oh and Podsednik.
103 mph screwball
The other righthanders the Mariners acquired all have promise as well. Bazardo likely will crack the back half of our Seattle Top 10 in the offseason. He throws in the mid-90s and has good command, but he needs to refine his secondary pitches (slider, changeup) so he'll miss as many bats as he should. He still needs more polish, but at 21 he has plenty of time Baseball America Ask BA Yea, I can't imagine KW not wanting this kid even if he turns out to be some kind of project. DBAHO
Get him please; Free agent Tony Batista homered and delivered a game-winning sac fly in the bottom of the 18th as the Dominican Republic beat Venezuela 4-3 Friday in the first game of the Caribbean World Series. Miguel Tejada also homered. Jose Lima started for the D.R. and allowed two runs in five innings. Santiago Ramirez, Leo Nunez, Jose Vargas, Joel Peralta, Julio DePaula held Veneuzuela scoreless for the next 10 1/3 innings. In his third inning of work, Hector Almonte gave up an unearned run in the 18th, but the D.R. came back on Bernie Castro's RBI single and Batista's fly to center. The star for Venezuela was Ronny Cedeno, who went 3-for-7 with two RBI and a walk. Mariners prospect Yorman Bazardo guaranteed that he wouldn't clear waivers by striking out five in three scoreless innings.
Chisoxfn
Beats guys like Paulino Reynoso or Luis Terrejo. However, I doubt we pull Terrejo off the roster until the squad figures out what is going on in the outfield. Still there are plenty of guys I'd take off the 40 in order to get Bazardo. dwalteroo
Okay, someone needs to explain this to me like I'm two year old. Barzado seems unlikely to clear waivers, so if we are to get him, we'd need to trade for him, right? So who do we have that the Ms would want? Chisoxfn
QUOTE(dwalteroo @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) Okay, someone needs to explain this to me like I'm two year old. Barzado seems unlikely to clear waivers, so if we are to get him, we'd need to trade for him, right? So who do we have that the Ms would want? No, we could claim him off waivers if he gets to us (which I doubt he will). I'm actually surprised the M's didn't try trading him first. dwalteroo
Gotcha - thanks. Yeah, I was thinking there's no way he gets to us on waivers, so we'd have to give someone up. (Seems like it might be worth it though...)

AirScott
I don't think this will happen. although it would be awesome for this team to pick up a guy like Bazardo, 28 other teams would also find it awesome to pick up a guy like Bazardo. knightni
Was Bazardo with the Marlins before the Mariners? Yes. He was. Edited February 5, 2007 by knightni
DBAHO
QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 04:45 AM) Was Bazardo with the Marlins before the Mariners? Yes. He was. He was part of the infamous Villone trade. I say that because for us to have traded for Villone at the 05 trade deadline, we would of had to given up B-Mac.
