Thankfully it sounds like Carlwell will be ok. The situation is very odd though, especially with Jamar Smith driving home after the accident took place. Jamar definitely enjoys the night life at U of I, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise.

From the Chicago Tribune:

"It had been snowing," Brown said. "There was some snow on the ground. The roads were slick and icy."

It was between 11:30 and 11:45 pm and they were around Assembly Hall, so maybe they were coming back from working out. Unless they were at someone's house partying, there aren't many bars on First St.

According to the News-Gazette, they were driving north on First Street which would signify that Jamar was driving Carlwell back to the dorms and unless they were drinking at Jamar's apt, they werent near bars. I had been out on the roads an hour before that and the roads were nasty. It snowed enough over night that all classes were cancelled today (the first time in my 6 years at this university that this happened). Thus, all signs point toward this being weather related.

Prayers go out to the families. Great to hear Carlwell has been upgraded to stable.

Looks like a rear wheel drive lexus. Those can get quite slippery in the snow.

I don't know how this is THAT suspecious. He was driving a 12 year old Lexus his grandpa gave him, those things SUCK in snow, and there you have it. And 11:30 PM is practically sunset for a college student, let alone athlete probably coming home from working out. If this were a Friday night, I'd be far more suspecious.

The one thing that is odd is he drove the thing after the crash, but he had a concussion and the weather was really bad and who knows, panic sets in.....at least they are both alright. But I'll give Jamar the benefit of the doubt for now, this isn't as cut and dry looking as the infamous apartment stereo incident with Luther and Rich.

Not this year they wouldn't, which is why it has been so maddening.

The weirder thing, from what I'm reading, is that Smith drove home and went inside after the accident, and Carlwell was still in the car.

That is very strange, my only LOGICAL thought is they didn't have a cell or the cell just broke in half in that crash (the 2nd being more likely) and he panicked, along with the head trauma messing with his head, and drove home since it was a blizzard.

However, I have a bit more knowledge of the situation now than I did earlier today, and with that said....well I won't speculate too much, but Jamar could have issues far worse than leaving an accident scene, and if what I heard is potentially true plays out that way, Jamar's Illini career could be over. I just hope Brian's isn't, thank God he's in fair condition now.

An Illini sports player doing something stupid? Shocking!

I hope they both get healthy and if there was any inappropriate activities by either of them that the UIUC hangs them high instead of the slap on the wrist McBride suspension.
