Sirius and XM to Merge!!!

If anyone is nearing the end of their XM subscription, give them a call and request to cancel (even if you are planning to renew). They'll offer you a full year at half price. I just called and that is the deal I got. And I was actually going to cancel but once they offered me a year for $77, I went ahead and took it.

Well, the Billy West Spotlight series on Howard 100 the last 2 days was worth the money, espically the "Jackie Puppet" segment.

The "Jackie Puppet" segment was funny and was Billy West's best contribution to Stern's Show.

Having said that, I got Sirius for Stern. While I didn't begrudge him a vacation for the obvious times of year (2 weeks for Summer, 1 week for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Xmas/New Years) when he started up at Sirius, it now seems like he's taking a god damn vacation every 3rd week. Not to mention, he's only doing 4 live shows a week when he's not on a god damn vacation.

I find myself listening to the music stations and various other stations 3 times a week now cause I'm not a big fan of "Master Tape Theatre" on Friday's and that is NOT what I got Sirius for. If I wanted to listen to music, I'd have used the $$$ for an I-Pod.

Stern has an obligation to his listener's that forked over $$$ for ORIGINAL shows and, IMHO, he's borderline not delivering.

Just my 2 cents.

No, Im referring to TonyHo. He used to love to take every opportunity to blast XM and extol the virtues of Sirius. Now they are one and the same. Its kind of funny

You guys have been missing me haven't you. I have been talking more Sirius than Sox lately, so siriusbackstage has been my board of choice.

However, you are wrong. I am happy about this. I am a stockholder, a disgruntled one at that, and want to make some money. hopefully this will do it.

As for content, Sirius has everything I need, so XM content doesn't interest me, not even MLB. But I think it should be good for everyone to have some more options. I could see paying a little extra to get some of their channels.

Final note on Sterns success forcing a merger, I was thinking the opposite, Sirius didn't achieve the critical mass they were looking for and made themselves available. If they thought they could have caught XM, they probably would have continued to compete.

Are you sirius? Ha. Come on man. Since Stern joined, they went from 600,000 to 6 million. They would have caught XM. For 6 straight quarters now, Sirius has outgained XM, and has shifted the retail market from 60-40 XM, to 60-40 Sirius. Stern kept Sirius from going under, and if XM had signed him, game over. Sirius would be gone. We can debate all day about kind of numbers Stern brought. We can quote Rex's ridiculous number of 1 million or mine, which is about 3 million. NO OTHER RADIO GUY COULD DO THAT. Not even Rush. People love Rush (morons), but are not going to follow him in droves like us Stern morons.

*breathing* I am done.

So why doesn't Stern start his own satellite venture? With all those subscribers, just wanting his show, cut the expense of all those other channels and have an all Stern channel.

If he is responsible for almost 1/4 of all satellite subscribers, he could single handily shut down the industry.

Disprove the numbers the I posted. He brought legitimacy to the industry and brought the light on XM and Sirius.

This is the first week he's been on vacation since he's been back and it was a week that would have had only 3 broadcasts anyway, with the holiday. And I'm sorry if you don't like "Master Tape Theatre", but for a longtime fan, I think it rules. I'd prefer though to get different MTT broadcasts thru the day on 100 rather than the same one repeated. And the Billy West stuff was great! Also, you got live Bubba & Ferrall shows all week, so what's the problem?

Disprove that the increase in listeners was due to installs in new cars, poor local programming in key markets and the increase in intensity of sun spots which made regular radio tough to listen to.

Yes, he drove some buyers.

Legitimacy to the industry? :lolhitting :lolhitting

if it didnt cost $1 billion to put a satelitte in orbit, he might have just done that.

Do you own xm or sirius? If not, why am I arguing you.

And all those other things contributed. But they came in DROVES when he signed on. They added 3 million people right around the time of his first Sirius broadcast.

Let me explain legitimacy...for the first time, there was a TOP NAME radio personality, going exclusively to one or the other. MLB, NBA, etc, are not exclusive to either service. You get those in many forms. Howard was going to a medium where only Sirius subscribers could listen.

25% only bought for him, he made the market legit. I'm not certain where you got that number. But with 3,000,000 people all wanting just him, that's only about $333 per person. Plus, he makes the market legit, so the others would fail, leaving him as the only satellite radio option.

They talk like that on the Catholic Channel? Scandalous!

I know, Stern is the greatest entertainer in history. Invented satellite radio. It would not exist without him, blah blah blah.

You crack me up. I have never in my life met someone so devoted to a dj. :lolhitting :lolhitting You would probably die without him.

Two thousand years from now there will be temples dedicated to him. Maybe you will be recognized as one of the prophets. Interesting you raise the parallels to the Catholic Church, you worship Stern like many people worship the God of their choice. So Stern is your God.

The difference is Stern actually exists. Hey Oh!

I would love to be the Pope of the Church of Stern. Instead of Amen, we could say Hey Now!

:lolhitting :lolhitting :lolhitting The perfect human. Glad you found him. LMAO. Maybe instead of having children, you could have him donate sperm? With such perfection in the world, I am certain you wouldn't want to reproduce.

And while I find Stern to be amusing to hilarious at times, northing compares to the ferocity and fervor of his fans. You all crack me up. Any criticism of Stern, anything less than calling him a god, gets you all frothy in the mouth and pounding keyboards.

I just kicked my dog I'm so pissed at you.

Hilarious at times? Now you are a listener? I'm so confused.

And donate sperm? have you looked at the guy? The kids would be lanky, dorky looking things with big noses and witchy hair.

I listen sometimes. I've heard better comics and better social commentators. I have a little more perspective in my life and do not hero worship, I left that behind as a childhood relic. I hope you find a life partner and can worship them on the same level as Stern. That person will be very lucky, or a victim of stalking (The Stern you know, by the way, only exists on the radio. He's an entertainer and puts on a puppet to entertain. It is after all a show and he has artistic license to portray any character. Until you are in his inner circle, you really don't know the person.)

Just because I get in this thread and act like an idiot, does not mean I actually am one.

I listen everyday and am entertained, more than anything other show out there. That is all.

I understand, Sterns does that to his fans. That is the most amazing part about his show. Tell me something, taking Sterns out of the equation, why is XM's programming so much better than Sirius?

Tony, as a fellow owner of Sirius stock, I wish everything you said is true. However even with Stern bringing his audience with him, they were never going to catch or take over XM as the leader in Sat radio. As much as I would have liked it to happen it just isnt in the cards.

Both companies realized that the market is leveling off and there is only so much to be gained from competing.

When they adapt the XM name, will you still claim to listen to Sirius?

I don't feel XM is better. I think both provide great music choices. I have listened to XM. The music I like didn't do it for me on XM. XM tries to be deeper in their music, which sounds cool, but it really depends what type of music you like. I heard some horrible stuff on XM, and sure it was deeper cuts, but they were bad cuts. Sirius is supposedly more hit based, which isn't quite true. Bottom line, you will hear music on both, that you never hear anywhere else.

I'm also not a big fan of Clear Channel being involved in XM. They are one of the reasons most people leave terrestrial.

As for sports, the best radio sport is baseball, but I don't need that, being in Chicago. I don't listen to other teams. As for NFL, I could care less as well. NASCAR does add a cool feature, if you like NASCAR, with in car audio. It would be cool to go to a race, take the portable device and listen to the drivers frequency as you watch.

Talk, well, most of it doesn't interest me. I feel Howard put together some good talk on his channels, besides him. Otherwise, I can't rate talk.

Comedy, probably the same on both.

I've been waiting for you. Sirius certainly could have overtaken XM...they had the momentum. Who knows, its probably not going to get played out. Who really cares. I want some money, merger is fine with me.

I don't have a problem with any name. As long as this new service doesn't have commercials on the music channels, I will be fine with it.

Buy the rumor, sell the news. The stocks have priced in a merger at this point, but there is downside risk, and very little upward potential left. If I owned stock in either one, I'd sell it pronto. I might even consider shorting them.

The customer base wasnt there, the interest for Sirius as a unique vendor had died down as most of Stern audience were already converted. I suspected growth for both companies with a level off inthe next year.

With that said, i have made alot of money on the stock and Im pretty pumped about the merge. I listen mostly for sports and somewhat for music and its going to be cool to be able to listen to everything. I hope they can get approval and get this done in good time because as of right now, im not a subscriber to either.
