The OFFICIAL MVC Tournament Thread

Recommended Posts

My favorite conference tournament :P and one bubble teams need to at least keep an eye on. If someone outside the top 3 wins it, then that probably takes a bubble spot away(Bradley needs to win it to get in, imo).

So here you go:

Thursday, March 1 -- Session I [No Television]

Game 1 -- #8 Evansville (14-16, 6-12) vs. #9 Drake (16-14, 6-12), 6 p.m. [sirius Satellite Radio Channel 122]

Game 2 -- #7 Illinois State (15-15, 6-12) vs. #10 Indiana State (12-17, 5-13), 8:30 p.m. [sirius Satellite Channel 122]

Friday, March 2 -- Session II

Game 3 -- #1 Southern Illinois (25-5, 15-3) vs. Winner Game 1, noon [FSN Midwest, Comcast SportsNet, Sirius 122]

Game 4 -- #4 Bradley (20-11, 10-8) vs. #5 UNI (18-12, 9-9), 2:30 p.m. [FSN Midwest, Comcast SportsNet, Sirius 122]

Friday, March 2 -- Session III

Game 5 -- #2 Creighton (19-10, 13-5) vs. Winner of Game 2, 6 p.m. [FSN Midwest, Comcast SportsNet, Sirius 122]

Game 6 -- #3 Missouri St. (21-9, 12-6) vs. #6 Wichita St. (17-13, 8-10), 8:30 p.m. [FSN Midwest, Comcast, Sirius 122]

Saturday, March 3 -- Session IV

Game 7 -- Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4, 1:30 p.m. [FSN Midwest, Comcast SportsNet, Sirius 125]

Game 8 -- Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6, 4 p.m. [FSN Midwest, Comcast SportsNet, Sirius 125]

Sunday, March 4 -- Session V

Championship -- Winner Game 7 vs. Winner Game 8, 1 p.m. [CBS Sports, Sirius Satellite 181]

Anyone got any predictions? Illini fans, you guys paying attention to this one a little bit?

Tournament should be a lot of fun as even though SIU is clearly the best team in this league, there are a bunch of teams who can win this thing.

i really think SIU is gonna give the rest of the MVC the middle finger and win this thing.

With how much more the other top Valley teams have to lose compared to SIU (which is nothing since the NCAA will never give them a 2 or 3 seed even if they win out) and SIU's history in this tournament up until last year, I wouldn't count on it.

I  Stephen Bardo.

I would watch out for Missouri State and UNI. Missouri State is squarely on the bubble and UNI can get hot at any time. Wichita State could get hot too, but they could also bomb out very quickly...in fact...I think they would be more on the bomb out quickly side.

That being said, Go Salukis! (And that's from an Illini fan)

Different seasons, different results. This team is pretty dang good. Every team SIu has played down the stretch has had something to lose, and SIU has risen up every time. The Kiel Center/Whatever they want to call it now is gonna be packed with Saluki fans this year

I only think 1 of Kansas or A&M get a 2, the other will be a 3.

Also I think that because of SIU's higher RPI that they just might give them the nod over memphis.

SIU has a better SOS, 7-2 against top 50 versus 1-2. I just think that the comitte may select fewer MVC teams, but give the best one a high seed. Especially if they win out the MVC tournament.

Also a few teams in the top 12 still have 1 more game to lose.

(edit)

And the UCLA v WSU game tonight could play a huge role. If WSU manages to beat UCLA (not out of the world of possibilities as UCLA only won by a few at home) it would be hard to say that WSU are out of the 2 seed picture. But then again theyd have to beat USC too. Its just hard at this moment, and I think because SIU has a chance to win out that the 2 is still a chance.

Two pretty entertaining games to start the tournament. Drake has to face SIU at noon after playing an OT game vs Evansville, thats a tough draw.

I got here just in time to catch the end of the Evansville-Drake game and then I obviously saw the battle of the ISU's. From what I hear Webster just completely choked on two ft's at the end of regulation that would have given Evansville the win and then they went on to lose in OT. As for the battle of the ISU's, I'm not exactly sure how the Sycs pulled that off. The Red Birds absolutely dominated that game and are the better team. That being said, InSu just found a way to win, so kudos to them.

We got the noon game tomorrow and I have to be awake in like 6 hours but I can't sleep, oh well. Drake should be tired as all hell and hopefully we'll be able to wear them down and advance, it's not going to be easy though.

As for the other games: Creighton is going to win, that simple. The hardest game for me to pick is WSU-MSU. MSU is such a talented team, however in a game like this Hinson usually likes to get outcoached and the Shockers are certainly good enough to knock them off. I'm going to say WSU in the upset here, putting MSU squarely on the bubble which obviously didn't treat them well last season. UNI-Bradley is the other game and should be a good one as well. The Panthers have started to look a tad better since getting spanked in the BB two weeks ago, if they can get any kind of production out of their guards, they have a chance to do some damage in this tourny. Panthers in a close one and locking up a NIT bid for the Braves.
