nitetrain8601
QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Im sure they would much rather have Darrent Williams than bly but they obviously cant. Its still an upgrade to have Bly over anybody else they would of brought in. Nate Clements?
Balta1701
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 06:43 AM) Nate Clements? 8 years, $80 mil. He won't see all of it, but that's still a big contract. Any idea how much is guaranteed? ESPN is also reporting that Bly is moderately unhappy with this deal. The Broncos' newest cornerback might not be happy with his new surroundings. The Washington Post, citing several NFL sources, including some who have spoken with Dre' Bly, reported Monday that Bly was upset at being traded by the Lions to Denver and wanted to go to Washington, instead. The Redskins also were trying to trade for Bly, the newspaper reported, but couldn't match Denver's offer of two players and a draft pick. According to The Post, once Bly was dealt to Denver, Washington tried to negotiate a trade with the Broncos, offering cornerback Shawn Springs, but the teams couldn't work out a deal when Denver couldn't give Washington salary cap help. Citing unnamed players, The Post reported that Bly is miffed at being in Denver because the Broncos are unwilling to extend his contract, which has one year and $4.2 million remaining. The Redskins, however, reportedly were willing to give Bly a lucrative new extension, The Post reported. And playing with the Redskins would allow Bly, who is from Chesapeake, Va., to play close to home.
Palehosefan
Bly is still an upgrade over Clements. Bly intercepts more passes and causes more turnovers than just about any CB in football. Denver doesn't need a corner pressing the line, they need a cover corner that can stick with his man and let Lynch focus on the run. Bly is a perfect fit with Champ Bailey. Teams aren't going to throw at Champ, and Bly will get many chances to create turnovers, especially with Denver's LB's speed covering the inside. GoodAsGould
I dont know how anyone who follows football closely could seriously say Bly is better than Clements

They got a good one though thats an upgrade to what they had.
Palehosefan
I dont know how anyone who follows football closely could seriously say Bly is better than Clements Clements is a poor man's version of Champ Bailey. He is solid against the run and is a physical corner, Bly is a cover corner that creates turnovers. So yes, Bly is a better fit and an upgrade over Clements for the Broncos. Teams are going to be throwing at Bly and that's his specialty. He's not the best against the run, but that's what John Lynch and the amazing group of LB's are for. Bly gets beat, way more than Clements.... Will he get more interceptions? sure... but thats more because QB's are willing to challenge him more than they are a guy like Clements. Obviously for the money and since they signed Henry to it was the right move for them... but with Clements they have 2 shutdown CB's better than just about every other CB in the league besides McAllister arguably.
