Managers on the "Hot Seat"

I would prefer to see Al Lopez or Eddie Stanky back in charge if not Ozzie

 

I don't put much credence in these types of ST stories.

While asked on Sportscenter what MLB Managers are on the Hot Seat, Phillips stated Ozzie Guillen is due to the disappointing season they had in 2006. Said if he doesn't get the team to perform this year he could be out.

 

Now im not to fond of Steve as it is and I definitly was disappointed with the results of last year, but the fact remains the Sox did win 90 games. While Ozzie had his bad moves that might have cost them some games, im not ready to say if we don't make the playoffs this year that Ozzie should be gone, nor should he have to worry about being gone.

 

The Ozzie debate is an endless one here on Soxtalk, but I pose the question, if not Ozzie, who at this point would be better?

 

All I have to do is pull out my 2005 White Sox DVD and listen to all the players praise Ozzie to be assured that I want him running that dugout.

The Sox wouldn't unload Manuel after 2002 (throughout the season they got rid of just about everyone else) when he had two years left on his contract after not getting the Sox to "point C." I highly doubt they would get rid of a very charasimatic manager who has two 90+ win seasons and a WS title under his belt with 2 years left on his contract.

The only thing that would put Ozzie on the managerial hotseat is his mouth. So in a way I agree with Phillips, Ozzie is always one outrageous comment from looking for work. It would take just too much baseball-wise to go wrong for him to get canned otherwise. That isn't going to happen.

I'm not so sure about his inability to get along with young players. It's that fact that he wants them to work hard and listen to the coaches. To me, players like Danks are going to be fine with Ozzie because, just according to what I've seen him say, he just wants to work his butt off to make it to the big leagues, and if not now, he'll go to AAA and do what he needs to do. THAT'S what Ozzie wants.

 

I don't know about that. Ozzie seemed awfully harsh on Anderson and Tracey. It doesn't sound like he got along with McCarthy either. Of course, he treated Jenks like gold, so who knows. It's difficult to know what goes on behind closed doors. But it seems to me that Ozzie, at the very least, has a strong preference for veteran players.

Well thats the thing, Phillips said he would lose his job if the team didn't perform, and said they didn't perform last year. He didn't say he would lose it because of his mouth.

The only way I see Ozzie not being the manager come next year is if he runs his mouth in the media again and KW would have no choice to can him. I don't see a W-L record being a factor as this team is very talented that it could have my dog as the manager and they'd still win 81 games.

Well, ESPN and Phillips kind of got what they wanted. I listened to AM 1000 yesterday at night, and this was a topic of conversation, and Steve Phillips was going to be on later in the night. I turned it off about a minute into the talk about it. How this played out was almost like a parody.

You might want to pull out the '85 Bears video and wonder how Dikta became stupid.

 

Somewhat off topic, but Ditka always has and always will be a poor coach. With the talent he was given, it's a travesty he didn't win 2 Super Bowls minimum (and probably should have had 3).

 

As for Ozzie, like I said in the other thread, he won't be on the hot seat until this time in 2008, and that's only if we miss October again (and I don't think we will).
