Rockabilly
A source indicated that Sox general manager Ken Williams has been in talks with Philadelphia GM -- and good friend -- Pat Gillick about a deal that would send middle-relief help, including left-hander Boone Logan, to the Phillies for former Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand. RME JICO
QUOTE(Straycats @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 07:39 AM) A source indicated that Sox general manager Ken Williams has been in talks with Philadelphia GM -- and good friend -- Pat Gillick about a deal that would send middle-relief help, including left-hander Boone Logan, to the Phillies for former Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand. What source? BTW, once anything comes out before it happens, it doesn't happen. So this is probably just more speculation. Rowand is not lighting it up this spring either (2-18, 0 BB, 5K, .111 BA), and Logan is, so this doesn't make much sense. The Sox don't need another 5th outfielder. Bruce Wolf on the morning TV news mentioned it today as well.
southsider2k5
We will regret dealing Boone Logan. We don't have the depth with lefty relievers to deal.

Al Lopez's Ghost
Here's the link. BTW, if it's much more than Boone Logan and say a Sean Tracy, I'm not so crazy about getting Rowand back. We already won in 2005, it's time to move on. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox09.article

shipps
Considering Ozzie just flat out doesnt like BA this wouldnt surprise me.When has Ozzie ever had to manage someone he didnt like?If he has problems with someone they will be gone and this would be an excuse to ship BA out. Kyyle23
I wouldnt really mind a return to the Sox for Rowand, but it would just seem silly to trade two players to the Phillies only to turn around one year later and deal more prospects and players to get them both back. There has to be someone out there who can be equal to Rowand who isnt on the Phillies

Southsider, long time no talk, hope all is well, I don't post much anymore and if I do its only to certian folks,i just thought I needed to comment on this, Boone logan, andersen sweeney and just about every other minor league player we have Blows. We need a center fielder and the Sox love rowand and most likely he will sign with us for less money to play here. In addition, Boone Logan didn't exactly light he place up last year. furthermore anytime the sox start talking up one of there young players you know they are as good as gone. I would love to have rowand back, not because he is great just because he is way better than the crap we currently have. In addition maybe we can send gavin floyd back because he sucks too, he has no killer instinct. hope to see you around town or at the park sometime. take care. DBAHO
So let's see how this makes sense. Ozzie wants 3 lefties for the pen. We have Thornton, Sisco (who I think should be starting down at Charlotte) and Logan. For our OF spots, Jermaine Dye is a given. Scott Podsednik will make the roster if he's healthy, and Darin Erstad is going to have a role so that's 3 guys. Rob Machowiak and Pablo Ozuna play as backup OF's, and Brian Anderson is either going to start in CF for the Sox or the Knights. So how do you fit a guy like Rowand into that mix, especially if then you have to replace Logan as well?

I am usually not a big minor league guy. I like to sit back and see what a guy has before I jump onto, or off of, their bandwagons. I love Logan's arm, and I feel much better knowing that the problem last year was his confidence got crushed, which as a 21 year old making the jump straight from middle A ball, doesn't bother me at all. I think with what he learned last year, he is primed for a solid year in the pen, especially with a guy like Thornton sucking up the toughest lefty innings and batters. What I don't want to see is the Sox bringing Sisco north, and repeating the same mistakes the Royals did with him, and stunting his growth. BTW, good to see you too Q DOn't be a stranger. FlaCWS
Just like everyone else, I am a huge Rowand fan and would love to see him back... however, I'm not giving up Boone Logan to get him. He has looked great this spring and good left-handed relievers are hard to come by. Maybe offer them Aardsma instead?
EvilJester99
This is another part of this story I just saw on MLBtraderumors, so TIFWIW of course but I would be pissed if MacDougal is included in this deal..... "Given that a Rowand for Scott Linebrink trade was seriously under consideration, I wonder if the Sox would have to surrender a closing-worthy reliever like Mike MacDougal to close the deal." I agree, so if the Sox are going to trade for an OF I think the should try for somone like Baldelli -- not Rowand. I like Aaron, but he really can't hit very well and I think the injuries are starting to take a toll on his defense. It seems like most PHI fans thought Victorino was better in CF last season. Rowand would end up platooning with Erstad, and I think he would be only a marginal improvement to the team. The Phillies wanted Linebrink for Rowand, so the Sox will have to give up a lot more than just Logan to get him. I think would have to be something like Logan and Haeger and I think that would be foolish. Jeez, just trading Logan for Rowand migt be foolish... That would be absolutely atrocious. But I do agree that bringing Rowand back will cost more than anyone would want to give up. Don't do it Kenny. Just sign him in the offseason if you love him so much.

GoSox05
i dont think the sox will trade to much RP because they made it such a point this offseason to make our bullpen better, it wouldnt make much sense than to trade it all away.

Flash Tizzle
If Williams acquires Rowand, it's yet another indictment on our player development. We trade Rowand under the assumption Anderson is ready. We trade Young because he's expendable (or so we thought) with Anderson ready. Now we're interested in reacquiring him. Why? Because Anderson hasn't shown consistency. This doesn't take into account any off field issues, either. It's not really even a point to argue, anymore. They obviously thought more of Anderson and haven't been impressed. Personally, I feel Anderson should be our fulltime CF. If nothing else, atleast to determine -- without question -- whether he's capable of improving upon last season's statistics. Too bad Guillen doesn't feel this way. His Spring Training woes also don't help matters Edited March 9, 2007 by Flash Tizzle
