So What Do We Think of This Jersey?

Right?!?!? Man these Cooperstown jerseys are all like $250. No wonder I can never find one on Ebay because NOBODY APPARENTLY BUYS ONE.

Although they are having a 20% off sale so it's $200. I dunno, it's pretty sweet...

Going to have to agree with Flash Tizzle.

Where do you guys buy jerseys usually? I've seen some decent replicas with "authentic" lettering on eBay for under $100, but nothing aside from the standard home & away... and some of these are missing the away sleeve patch. The official shops seem way too expensive for something that I could spill beer on. Ideas?

Where the team gets theirs done--Grandstand.

I feel like if I am going to spend the amount of money to get a jersey, I'm going to go all out and get what's on the field. If I spill beer on it, it's what detergent and dry cleaning is for. I have a road gray Pierzynski authentic jersey, cost about $190 after shipping--quicker and cheaper than MLB.com. Had it in about 3 weeks.

The replica jerseys aren't made as well, and that's an understatement. They lack the trim and finishing, they cut a lot of corners. For example, they don't have any sleeve patches and some of them don't have the trim around the sleeves that the authentics do. The stitching isn't as quality, the fabric snags if you breathe on it wrong. Even if you get the authentic two-color numbering instead of the one-color schmaltz MLB.com peddles, you may as well get it right the first time with an authentic and all the bells and whistles instead of replacing it more than once.

found this at Mitchell & Ness. Beautiful jersey, would appreciate the spartan-chic of the road gray Fox a lot more if I grew up a Nellie Fox fan--but he was before my time. What I love from '59 is the wool jacket:

If that's a little rich for you, I understand. In that case, I'd take what a replica would run and blow it on a stack of vintage t-shirts.

As somebody who owns almost all the jerseys I have to agree that it's worth the money to get the authentic.

In the end, think about it: so you spend another $100. But you'll be wearing this jersey for almost forever, so is it really that expensive?

Yeah eventually the beer stains and ketchup will get onto that formerly pristine jersey (alas, my '06 WS A.J. jersey--it twas sooo white!) but if you're good with the Oxyclean you should be able to survive most spills.

My most brutalized jersey--the one worn to those sweltering series in '05 here against Boston, the Cubs, Oakland... where you literally roasted in the sun for hours, still looks good even though there's some sweat stains that will never come out.

Just remember: cold water only, NEVER tumble dry. MIne all still look really good.

Oh I know YASNY I just like hearing all of your opinions since people here appreciate Sox gear.

I'm leaning heavily towards the 1968 one at this point.

I like 'em both, but the pinstripes always do it for me.

I appreciate all the feedback, pro and con...

From what I understand, as I tried to do this last year, it's no big deal to get a jersey numbered and lettered... with your own name.

However, if you want a CURRENT player, they won't do it. You had to have bought the jersey that way--licensing and all that.

I was bummed because I have a few blank ones to which I wanted to add a number/player's name but no can do.

Unless somebody knows otherwise!

Now if it's a past player, I'm not sure how that works.

But I have a home white pinstripe jersey that I bought in 2000 blank and I sent it away last fall to get Buehrle's name and number on it and it was no problem.

NO KIDDING!

Please tell me where you were able to get that done! I have about three jerseys I'd like to do that to!

Seriously, that would be awesome.

Well, I technically did it at the same place I bought the jersey, but they wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you told them a little white lie. They seemed to be insistent that you had to have bought the jersey there. It's Chicago Sports and Novelty on Michigan just north of Lake, across from Hawkquarters.

so mlb.com just cancelled my order for a anderson jersey with 32 on it instead of 44. what the bleep gives. we all know he has a new number so update your inventory if you don't want people to customize it that way. i better still get my 20% off.

EDIT: then I call and ask what the deal is and they say their system is down. i am getting mad now.
