Alex Chilton died last night of a heart attack at age 59. Very talented and unknown guy that inspired a lot of acts. I liked The Box Tops and Big Star's music, but learned to appreciate him a lot more after visiting the Stax Museum in Memphis last year.

Oh, wow, I hadn't seen that.

Big Star is one of the most underappreciated rock bands of all time and influenced so many different acts. Going to put #1 Record on right now in remembrance of Alex and Chris Bell.

This is about 15 years too late.

Sales of digital downloads have not been enough to make up for the decline of CD sales since its peak in 2000. Universal Music Group plans to soften the fall of CD sales by dropping prices across the board, to a maximum of $10.

The company plans to test lower prices beginning next month and continuing throughout 2010. Nearly all of UMG's CDs will priced between $6 and $10. UMG is hoping that increased volume will make up for the price drop, and the company plans to create more higher-priced "deluxe" versions for more hardcore fans.

"We think [the new pricing program] will really bring new life into the physical format," Universal Music Group Distribution president and CEO Jim Urie told Billboard.

Retailers have been clamoring for lower retails prices, with many believing that $10 is the magic number to spur sales. (I'll admit, I rarely buy a physical CD for more than $10 these days). A recent test from Trans World Entertainment showed that a $9.99 price point doubled CD sales in over 100 of its stores.

This = closing the barn door when the horses are 1,000 miles away.

f***ing idiots saw this coming when downloading started becoming popular and decided a better plan of action would be to prosecute people rather than giving them viable alternatives, such as workable, affordable downloads and lower-priced physical media.

After years of gouging fans and giving has-beens enormous "lifetime achievement award" contracts while giving new acts literally pennies per sale, f*** the recording industry. I feel no sympathy for them whatsoever. I haven't purchased a "hard copy" of any music in at least three years other than independent local bands.

Going to a Kid Cudi concert on Wednesday down here in NOLA, cant wait.

Nice. I've gradually come to embrace Up Up and Away and Man on the Moon as my favorite songs on his last album.

Been listening to the new Gorillaz album lately and really enjoying it. I've never really got into Gorillaz too much, although I've always enjoyed their stuff that I've heard (and I like Blur, although it's certainly a very different style than Gorillaz). Maybe I'll have to investigate their older albums.

Anyone heard of Gary Go? I had never heard of them until I caught an episode of Sober House; they were promoting one of their songs at the end of the show for some reason (I think it was the end of the show.. unless it was just 30 minutes of upcoming highlights). Anyway, I looked them up on Youtube and I'm actually digging this song. I was wondering if any of their other songs are decent..
