MHizzle85
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) Can't believe people would say they would take Wayne over Em? Are you insane? Not one bit. Until Em shows that he can go back to the form that made everyone a fan then it's gonna be that way.

MHizzle85
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Eminem hasn't released a song in years. He hasn't released anything for someone to say, "Wayne did better than that". Regardless, I'd take Wayne's body of work from Tha Carter I-present over Em's period where he was on top. Don't worry, Hot Revolver sounds worse. And MHizzle, please post a verse that could match up to that? Basically something that's lyrical that makes sense. beautox
Listening to the new side project of Saves the Day and Say Anything "Two Tongues" its exceptional, all though i feel that they should have brought on a better bass player like Saves The Days former bass player Eben D'Amico. Between D'Amico and Fugazi's Joe Lally that is where i cultivated my tone and style as a bassist.
ThunderBolt
Hope this belongs here. A hypothetical, if you could choose a band and a set list to play the Super Bowl halftime show whom would it be? There are a couple of rules: they need to be “family appropriate” and your play list can be around 4 to 5 songs. Give it a go:
nitetrain8601
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) I'll give you one of my favorites from Wayne off the top of my head. I personally would've went with Tie My Hands off of The Carter III, but even that can't go against Em's greatest lyrics. I, knock on the door, hope isn't home Fate's not around the lucks all gone Don't ask me what's wrong ask me what's right And I'ma tell you what's life, and did you know? I lost everything, but I ain't the only the one First came the hurricane, then the morning sun Excuse me if I'm on one And don't trip if I light one, I walk a tight one They try tell me keep my eyes open My whole city underwater, some people still floatin' And they wonder why black people still voting 'Cause your president still choking Take away the football team, the basketball team And all we got is me to represent New Orleans, s*** No governor, no help from the mayor Just a steady beating heart and a wish and a prayer As far as hip-hop being poetry, it is, though sometimes it may be hard to see such. Regardless, there are different meanings to each song just like in any other genre.
SoxAce
The poetry of hip-hop is almost as gone/dead as true "Hip-Hop" itself. The more knowns: BDK, Slick Rick, Pac, Nas, Biggie, Rakim, KRS1, Pun, Bone, Snoop, DMC, Fresh, etc... etc.... etc... I can go on and on. Hell even Busta Dialated People, Beat Junkies and Big L. Plus the guys who never got enough exposure during the glory times. There are only a select few doing their thing who I like TRUE hip-hop wise (The Ludas, the Outkasts, the Lupes [to an extent] etc..) not to mention the DJs and such, but it is dieing unfortunitely. As far as this Weezy vs Em debate, Wayne is a beast (though as overrated as Jay-Z, who is a fraud BTW, and his boo) but no, he isn't as good as Em was when Em was really snappin. But Shady (and alot of underground followers [which I am hense the avatar name I've had for many years here]) knows there are others out there who never made it that are better than half/most of these posers in the game today, even better than he was. (Juice quickly comes to mind) It's just ridiculous the s*** that is on the radio not just for rap, but rock/punk/heavy/emo, alter., r&b, etc. also. I feel sorry for the younger kids who get into this crap, but frankly they don't have a choice, hense it's what they are exposed to.
bmags
Best part about wayne is he basically said f*** lyrics and went after pure flow based rap. His shtick is all about how it sounds, how the words come out and play with each other and uses the same words for multiple definitions. Is it less powerful? Maybe, but how much longer can I base lyrics on selling coke on content? Besides Clipse? Nonetheless Georgia Bush was also where wayne killed it. Eminem was a whiner too, ooh no my mom took pills, ooo i'm poor, boo hoo people criticize me... who cares.
