BobDylan
QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) "Challengers" the New Pornographers upcoming album has leaked I've got it downloaded, but I won't be able to listen to it until later tonight I don't know how many sources there are of this leak, but it was sent to me from my brother, who got it from the ateaseweb.com (a radiohead fansite) message board so if you're interested I would search around there The new Iron & Wine (Shepherd's Dog) is also out there somewhere too. Albeit in poor quality. Oh, and the new Ryan Adams album is tops. Edited June 12, 2007 by BobDylan

GoRowand33
I've listened to Challengers twice now In terms of sound it is maybe very slightly more acoustic/mellow than any other album of theirs, but in terms of quality, its not a progression from twin cinema, but it is right on par with the rest of their work

BobDylan
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) any Pelican fans have thoughts on the new record? City of Echoes? My take is the band has loads of potential but doesn't even come close to reaching it. The songs seem uninspired and never hit the points they need to hit. Plus, an awful lot of the songs sound the same. That said, the album is decent. Edited June 14, 2007 by BobDylan

He's definately the weak link, but overall, they're still pretty solid.

WHarris1
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 02:22 AM) Boxer is going to kill my stereo. I haven't been taken so much by an album since Funeral from The Arcade Fire. (Except now I remember Illinois by Sufjan Stevens.) And I agree Clap Your Hands Say Yeah suck. Just saw this now but had to say...Boxer f***ing RAPES. God I love this album.
BobDylan
Okay, don't bash me before listening to it, but Kelly Clarkson's new album My December is quite good. It has some "indie" feel in it and the craftsmanship through it is very good. This is a singer who has, in my opinion, never released an album with any more than two songs worth listening to more than twice. This one has at least seven. Whoever writes for her (or if it's her) needs a few lessons though. The writing throughout is weak and digging to hit areas that she'll never hit--even with her voice. If she's changing her sound to the indie vibe, hopefully somebody will tell her that subtly can go for miles in poetry. I'm gunning for your "Most Musical" award. Your Kelly Clarkson review disqualifies you from consideration. I'm enjoying a band called My Teenage Stride. They sound like the soundtrack to a John Hughes film he never made. 80's retro sound, but more in the vein of The Smiths than Joy Division. I love The Smiths. And I'm very, very tired of all the Joy Division rips. One, maybe two of the rips are good. The rest? I'd rather eat my own puke out of a bowl. Anyway, I downloaded "Ears Like Golden Bats" and I like it much. Good reccomendation. P.S. I will stake every ounce of reputation (or lack there of) I have at this site on the new Kelly Clarkson. We might not enjoy the same artists, but it's great that you have an appreciation for things straight across the board. Pelican The National Dylan Clarkson I haven't heard her new record, but Clarkson is another classic example of a gifted singer using her amazing voice to make crap music......and she's put on about 40 lbs. It's better than their previous two. Worth the cash? I wouldn't put down $15 for it, but it is a different effort than the previous two. Jack pulls out some tricks he hasn't used before. I guess it depends on how much you like them. I was thoroughly disappointed with Elephant and Satan, so I didn't put much stock in Icky Thump. Kelly has definitely put on some weight. I saw her on Kimmel and her thick thighs and balloon ass distracted me from the music. She used to be really hot, but it's not like she's ugly now. Oh, and speaking of 90's music... Pulp's "Different Class" is tops from the 90's. That means sit down Cobain (overrated, anyway). Jarvis Cocker owns b****es in that album. Not to mention Cocker ran onto stage during a live Michael Jackson set and mooned him. QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) i have a very busy job. Probably true, but it's a shame her voice is wasted. I mean, the female scene in indie music is dominating right now with Feist, Taken By Trees, Oh Laura, Coco Rosie, Joanna Newsom, Amy Winehouse and Alele Diane. She's got the power in her voice to dominate that scene--but she needs to slow the f*** down and pull that rock music down a couple notches and find a good writer.
