Balta1701
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) I'd probably take Masset over Floyd and let Floyd work things out starting in AAA. Masset has looked 100% better than Floyd this spring. And it's not like Ozzie uses his long men very often. Haeger, Masset, Thor, Logan, MMac, and Jenks is my Bullpen as it stands now. Kalapse
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) If Logan makes the team, I'm going to be worried. Seems like people have the same mancrush over him like they did with Jeff B. Seems like completely different situations to me. People like Boone because he's a 22 year old with excellent stuff who has produced in both Spring Training and his first time around in AAA. Aside from that it seems like a good amount of fans aren't exactly infatuated with his personality. Baj has meh stuff, a high 80's straight fastball and no real secondary pitches which really didn't project well to the next level despite his pretty impressive numbers at AAA. Fans tended to root for him because he really seems like one of the good guys. Logan actually projects fairly well at the next level unlike Baj. Those of us who dealt with Baj just knew he was a friggin awesome guy. Boone can bring it low 90s and looks pretty good against everyone again this spring. Kalapse
Why is it that every time someone wants a player to make the team or is cheering for an underdog it's immediately written off as a 'man crush'. Must everything be either a man crush or sarcastically critiqued with ridiculous hyperbole?

For example, tons of Cub fans have mancrushes on Rich Hill and Angel Guzman despite them having several shortcomings. Sox fans have mancrushes over Rob Mackowiak (because he's a Cub killer, whatever that means), Jeff Baj, and Boone Logan.

Apparently a whole lot of scouts and members of the media also have man crushes on Rich Hill because he's been touted as one of the better pitcher prospects currently in the bigs (despite being 27). And to say that anyone who like Rob Mackowiak as a player simply has a man crush on him -- and because he's a Cub killer? -- is just ridiculous. I like him because he's pretty good at baseball why the hell does that have to be a man crush? What about the people who irrationally dislike players like Mackowiak what's that all about? What's the opposite of a man crush.

What's the opposite of a man crush. A dislike in the player. Possibly a man uncrush? Hill has 4 good games last year and now he's supposed to win between 15 and 20 games? Um, I don't see that happening. He has a very nice curve, he has nothing else to me. Mackowiak is an okay utility player, but people were begging for him here because he's from Chicago and because he's a "grinder" and because he's a "Cubs killer". I rather see Haeger or Sisco make this team over Logan. Bring me back Damaso before Logan.
fathom
I like the idea of only worrying about having 4 starters the first few weeks of the season. This way, Perez can make the opening roster, and we can get him in the lineup to face some of the tough lefties we'll face in the first few weeks (assuming he's healthy). I still demand that Floyd start the year in AAA and actually show he can get professional hitters out at a good rate.

WHITESOXRANDY
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We don't need a 5th starter in April I don't believe. Keep Haeger in the bullpen for the month and send everyone else down. Heck, we could use the extra roster spot for an extra position player if need be. That's one of the best ideas I've heard in a while.

Rich Hill Gamelog I see 9 good starts out of 16, and all 9 of those good starts came in a stretch of 11 starts to end the year, from August on. It's conceivable and perhaps even probably that he'll put up a 4.50 ERA, but a kid taking steps as big as that - getting super hot for 2 months - could be pretty successful. He'll never be an ace, simply because his fastball isn't nearly good enough, but he could very easily be a #3 throughout his career.
YASNY
Just because Boone Logan gagged it last year, as a 21 year old rookie by the way, doesn't mean he will again. This kid has a future. Another year of maturity and having gone through the experience last year may have given him the mindset he needs to be successful. I hate when people write off a young player because he s*** the bed on his first exposure to the majors. If everyone had that attitude, Willie Mays would have been labeled a bust. Actually Willie Mays won Rookie of the Year as a 20 year old with the New York Giants, he was pretty amazing in his first go round as a major leaguer. Vida Blue on the other hand was pretty terrible as a 19 year old rookie in 1969.
