Lowery signs extension at SIU

Recommended Posts

Sonik, I love your sig. Next year its gonna be Mullins/Falker/Fay. :)

I just read somewhere that Weber makes 700K a year(not positive, salukitalk chat), how strange is it that SIU is paying their coach 50K more than UofI is paying their coach? I dont think that has ever happened before

I got the sig from salukitalk, my name on there is JBone22.

Yeah Weber makes 700k a year and you know he's got to be looking back on the decision he made to leave. I love BAM but to tell the truth i like Lowery a lot more. Can't wait to watch Fay play next year and lets hope Bocot gets the qualifying ACT score. GO DAWGS!

Majerus: 'I'm not going to Iowa' (From Des Moines Register)

Atlanta, Ga. — Contrary to media reports, former Utah men's basketball coach Rick Majerus denied Saturday that he was a candidate to replace Steve Alford at the University of Iowa.

"No, I'm not going to Iowa and thank you very much," the 59-year-old Majerus said in a phone interview.

Several eastern Iowa outlets, citing unnamed sources, reported late Friday night that Majerus, a Wisconsin native who also coached at Ball State and Marquette, was meeting with Hawkeye athletic director Gary Barta in Atlanta.

Majerus denied those reports and declined to answer a reporter's question as to his present whereabouts.

"I just gave you all you need to know, son," Majerus said before hanging up. "I've got to take this call and thank you very much."

Two coaches not planning on Iowa basketball job

Atlanta, Ga. — Kirk Speraw isn't planning on a homecoming. Nor, for that matter, is Steve McClain.

Neither Speraw, a native of Sioux City and the men's basketball coach at Central Florida, nor McClain, the Orient native and former coach at Wyoming, say they've been contacted by the University of Iowa or its athletic director, Gary Barta, about becoming the Hawkeyes' next basketball coach.

Speraw has remained below the radar on most of the short lists for replacing Steve Alford, but his career record is impressive. A former Hawkeye basketball letterman in 1978 and 1979, Speraw has taken the Golden Knights to the NCAA Tournament four times, most recently in 2005, and was named 2007 Conference USA coach of the year after a 22-9 campaign.

Speraw's former coach, Lute Olson, told The Des Moines Register Friday night that he would recommend his former player to Barta, if asked.

"No," Speraw said Saturday as he left his Atlanta hotel. "Haven't talked to anybody."

McClain, 44, worked under Barta for two seasons at Wyoming before the latter left Laramie for Iowa City. He said Saturday that he hasn't talked to Barta in about three weeks.

"Gary will do a very thorough job and I think, at the end of the day, when he makes the hire, the Iowa (fans) are going to be really happy," he said. "We had a great two years together."

McClain, who posted a 157-115 record in nine seasons with the Cowboys, was fired last month by Barta's successor, Tom Burman.

"If I appreciated one thing about Gary Barta when I worked for him, it was that I knew where I stood every day," McClain said. "And knew exactly what was expected of our programs every day. I think as the people of Iowa get to know Gary better and better, that's what they're going to find out about him."

Iowa and Michigan are probably focusing on Beilien, Lichtliter, and probably a few other mid-major coaches or BCS assistants.
