Everything about Packer is old school, so yes I believe him 100%. Doesn't mean he should still be announcing though, he's horrendous. He is the antithesis of Vitale, and both need to be put out to pasture.

Who the hell cares? He obviously wasn't using the term in a derogatory way in terms of sexuality. So words can be used in different ways and when using slang, definitions can be stretched.

I don't know if he's lying. The fact that he said he would and probably will use the term again makes me think that he thought he was using it in the proper usage, it doesn't seem like he would say that if he were trying to cover his ass. Remember, this is one stubborn-ass announcer. Is it possible that he honestly thinks it means "lazy" when, in reality, he's wrong? It wouldn't be the first time he was wrong and refused to acknowledge it. I think this is more a case of ignorance of his understanding of the term.

 

With that said, he needs to realize that it's not the 1960's anymore. Even if used in the proper context, the word "f**" mainly has a negative connotation in 2007. Anyone, especially the number #1 college b-ball broadcaster on a national network, should have a little more common sense.
