Palehosefan
You all will be delighted to know that 200 people actually showed up at the Duke Spring Game. I'm honestly not sure if 100 of those were the football team, managers, and coaches though.

I can't wait to see another Illinois football team with moderate expectations for some stupid reason play like trash again. mmkay

danman31
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) The last time we played the game was very close. I would expect similar results this year, though you are obviously favored. Either way, I'm glad we brought this game back. Yeah, absolutely. Mizzou needs a better non-conference schedule and this is a nice step towards that. I'm not expecting a lot out of Mizzou this year (8-9 wins at most, the defense is a joke), but that should be a fun game.

They got 8 last year and the entire offense is returning. I should say I don't expect 9 and would be very happy with it. Still though, on paper it's reasonable to think they could improve upon last year which would be 9 wins.

CanOfCorn
I have to say...whether he can coach or not...whether he can recruit or not...Zook has been great for the state of Illinois. Taking a Spring game to Chicago...going on a six-city tour...I can see him being here for a loooong time as long as he keeps recruiting and can consistently get to higher end bowl games (5th place and above). Maybe can't coach his way out of a paper sack, but he's gettin' the word out about Illinois football!

Maybe can't coach his way out of a paper sack, but he's gettin' the word out about Illinois football! The trick is, to have him stock the program with talent, and then ditch him for a top-flight X's and O's coach. Think Florida and Urban Meyer. ...I'm only half-kidding. That really ought to be the plan, because even in his two years here, I've seen more fundamental coaching errors than you would expect to find in the high school ranks. EDIT: However, in all fairness, I believe if you are able to match Zook up with some young, up-and-coming offensive wiz-kid (i.e. Lane Kiffin, Sarkisian, Jon Gruden) then you have something to work with--that scenario could work. Because, we all know Zook is an amazing recruiter, he appears to do it cleanly, and he works very, very well with defensive backs...match Zook up with one of those types of guys and then you may have a perennial contender in the Big Ten, which is all could be asked of a coach at Illinois. Agreed. As long as he can get out of the way...Illinois should be able to compete. And Guenther, especially after the Bill Self fiasco, rewards loyalty. As long as Zook improves and wins, he can pretty much write his own ticket. (unless he wants to leave or we change ADs)
Heads22
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=200861 Gene Chizik ranked as the worst BCS football coach. Urban Meyer 12th, one behind Kirk Ferentz. Mangino's fat ass at 35th out of 66.
Jimbo's Drinker
Mangino is a really smart X's and O's Coach. he was very succesful as an O coordinator at OU and KSU. He finally took control of the offense this year. oh year, he cant recruit a lick.
Palehosefan
I fell out of my chair with Tom O'Brien at 13th in the nation. The guy is 75-45 in his 10 years at BC at 58 years old. Averages 7.5 wins a year I'll compare him to my school's two coaches, Mike Leach and Butch Davis. Mike Leach: 56-33 in his 7 years at TTU at 46 years old. Averages 8 wins a year. Butch Davis: 51-20 in his 6 years at Miami at 56 years old. Averaged 8.5 wins a year at Miami while bringing them back from probation before his arrival and setting Coker up for a national title the year after he left. At worst, Leach is O'Briens equal, nevermind that he's 12 years younger. All 3 coaches have always run clean programs, so that's a wash. Davis above O'Brien is a no brainer. I knew the list was a joke when I saw Grobe in the top 5, that's hilarious. Amazing what one good year will get you on that list. Ok, just noticed Steve Kragthorpe was ranked above Ralph Friedgen, this list looks like it was drawn from a hat. IlliniKrush
An improving Illinois team against Michigan in prime time at Memorial Stadium...it's like i've seen this before or something... We had a very good D Coordinator, i Believe he left for Wisconsin. Charles Gordon left a year early, and now is on the vikes and Aquib Talib will be a top 10 pick next year. The Defense has been good for awhile, its been the offense that is the problem. They brought over the RB coach from Illinois to be the coordinator this year, but who knows. Though i just went to the games for the tailgate, we really suck. Edited May 1, 2007 by Jimbo's Drinker

The infamous Drew Henson/Refs game. I'll never forget that one, that and the 2001 Arizona/Illinois NCAA Tourney game are 2 of only 3 games i've ever seen (the 3rd is the 2002 West Playoffs Game 6 between the Lakers and Kings at Staples Center) that were undebateably decided by the refs. Rex Hudler
Anybody have access to ESPN Insider? Todd McShay has an article today on the players for this upcoming college season which could be high NFL draft picks. Can someone either post the article or at least a detailed summary?
