fathom
How many games have we had this year where we only had one or two hits thru the first 3 innings? QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) Owens not playing for Charlotte either. He's hurt
Heads22
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 06:55 PM) He's hurt Where did you hear this and what did he do?
Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) I'd have really liked Pence but we wouldn't have needed him. I'd have preferred Hirsh + Willy T to Garland. Of course, that's a great gamble but the way I see it it'd free up payroll and replace an average starter for a guy with a huge ceiling. We wouldn't need him now, but he could have been a legitimate replacement for Dye in 2008. Hirsh and Tavarez alone for Garland is a bad trade. Again, if Jennings in a contract year can command Bulchoz/Hirsh/Tavarez, Garland, with an additional year under contract, should be worth more. fathom
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 11:57 PM) Where did you hear this and what did he do? Ozzie just said he has a sore arm. Ozzie mentioned Fields, Sweeney, and Terrero.
Gregory Pratt
Garland is better than an average starter No he isn't. He's a one-pitch pitcher. He's an average pitcher.
fathom
No reason given for Sweeney being scratched tonight. Everyone in the press box thinks he was called up. Fields looked brutal, and Haeger was up in the zone with everything.

Hirsh Tavares and Bulchoz for Garland -- I recall that being the deal -- seems like a good trade to me but I guess that's where we disagree. greg775
Here's a question I'd like to see what people think about: if Thome misses 30 or so games due to injury, does anyone think we have a chance in this division? No chance. He's too good a run producer. As big a guy as Thome is and as hard as he swings and his age, it does not surprise me when he gets hurt at this stage of his career. How can you call Jon "average?" If he's average, there are a lot of "below average" hacks taking the mound for teams.
fathom
QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 12:01 AM) No chance. He's too good a run producer. As big a guy as Thome is and as hard as he swings and his age, it does not surprise me when he gets hurt at this stage of his career. I wonder if he can stay healthy enough to get to 500 homers. This type of injury this season is really going to hamper him for a long time. I'm with you though Greg....I think we're doomed right now.
Heads22
BTW, Egbert goes for Birmingham tonight. I'll keep you guys posted. He'll probably implode since I'm following him tonite.
greg775
Doomed is a good word, but maybe too strong. I will be flamed for this, but I wish we had both Carlos Lee and Rowand on the team right now. Oops ... did I really write that? I'm going to be burned at the steak (Sizzler, Bonanza, Chop House).
Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) No reason given for Sweeney being scratched tonight. Everyone in the press box thinks he was called up. Fields looked brutal, and Haeger was up in the zone with everything. Sweeney and Fields performing poorly really is killing our organization. If either one of the two were to breakout they'd be an option next season for a starting job. Have either in a spot and more money is alloted to another position for an upgrade. This is around the time where I begin to criticize our system, again.
fathom
So our RHP lineup will look like this: Erstad, Iguchi, PK, AJP, Dye, Mackowiak, Crede, Sweeney, and Uribe Looks like an 83 win team to me.
greg775
Whenever the Sox are on TV here and I watch, Konerko always gets singles up the middle. I rarely see him jack. Singles are good, though.

greg775
Were those last 2 strikes meat to AJ? looked like it to me. If Dye homers here, we win this game.
