NorthSideSox72
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:16 AM) I'm sure some will blame Iguchi (from both sides of the field, offensively and defensively)... And Aardsma looked really shaky out there as well. Not sure that he's closer material. I know MacDougal isn't, not for the White Sox. It's just like Kip Wells in 2002 and 2003. He wouldn't have put up those same stats with the White Sox...MacDougal might have saved 21/24, but it was Doug Jones/Joe Borowski-esque. Always a high-wire act on the precipice of disaster, and many of those saves were 2-3 run leads where he would give up a run or two but still get the save. I'm sure Iguchi, Aardsma, Sisco, Masset and yes even Guillen contributed. But it was 4-1 bottom of 8 when MMac was on the mound, and when his batters were done, it was 4-4. That's the ballgame right there.
Controlled Chaos
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 9, 2007 -> 01:28 AM) What if he hits a homer? God I love Ozzie's logic. No, it's your fault for not f***ing walking Morneau. Ozzie doesn't use logic. Hell I don't even know if he has logic. It's not his fault...he is just an uneducated man. He is a a fun baseball guy, and played the game well, but logic?? smarts?? educated decisions?? not so much. He was raised, not in a classroom, but on a ball field. Does that equate to being a good manager? I don't think so. I think it takes more than that. "I swear to God, you can put me in Harvard, you can put me in any college in (the) United States, and you ask me a question, I will answer..." yes Ozzie you will answer...you will be wrong of course, but yes you will answer. Big deal. A 4 year old can answer wrong. What you need to do is work on getting it right!!

southsideirish71
This makes no sense. Manager Ozzie Guillen said Tuesday that Ryan Sweeney will likely be demoted to Triple-A once Jim Thome (rib) returns from the disabled list next week. Guillen indicated that he'd rather keep Luis Terrero as a reserve. ''I'm leaning to Terrero for one reason: Sweeney has to play every day,'' Guillen said. ''Terrero, he can cover all the outfield. That's the reason.'' So the kid who has been giving us quality ABs and has shown more plate presence than anyone on our .207 light hitting attack. We send him down, keep crappy Terrero. How about getting a clue, while prancer is out actually seeing what you have in this kid. So when Thome comes up its back to the crappy Mack/Ozuna no defense no hitting platoon. If he is not going to play, send him down. Why cant he play everday while Pods is out. So far he doesnt look overmatched. He goes deep into the count, and puts the bat on the ball. His defense is good and his arm is great. He can play everday until Pods comes back. Thome has no impact on this kid getting ABs.

joeynach
QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) Now if avid fans can see these issues, there is no way others are not seeing the same thing (management, media, etc). It is plain as day. I really hope someone asks Ozzie why he did not walk Morneau and allowed a RHP pitch to him with 2 outs and jeff Cirillo on deck. What could he possibly say other than he trusted Masset? Thats the key issue. Ozzie has no control over MacDougal not being able to get anyone out and giving up 3 strait hits, he has no control over the bad pitch Aardsma threw hunter that ran up and in towards his hot zone. But what Ozzie does have is the ability to situationally change the game and induce matchups that will present better situations for his guys. He absolutely failed to that last night by letting Masset pitch to Morneau instead of going after cirillo on deck. Thats twice now we have seen Morneau beat us on one swing of the bat on pitches that are basically pretty lousy pitches, compared to the strike zone. So there is no reason to say u can get Morneau out by pitching around him because he has already hit two balls way out of the strike zone off of us that resulted in 2 wins. The managerial decision to pitch to Morneau the reigning MVP was stupid, with crappy hitting Cirillo. Here is my goats of the game. Gooch not fielding that play late in the game was a big goat of the game. The sox offense not hitting again(thank god for another AL Central pitch boo boo helping us to score 3 runs) AArdsma double clutching and not throwing out the lead runner on the bunt. Hell he should of caught that bunt in the air. MacDougal getting into hitter counts, in fact the entire relief core pitching away from contact. Although, one caveat - can Sweeney play CF defensively? I didn't see his one game out there so far, and haven't watched him play there in AAA. Is he soild enough to be a backup there once a week? But Thome is a DH. Why again cant Sweeney play everyday until Pods comes back. Please dont say Mack and Ozuna. You have a valid opportunity right now to see what you have in this kid. The other options to play LF are not as good as Sweeney right now. Let Ozuna get the tough lefty.

You flat out dont load the bases there with the winning run waiting to be walked in. You just dont. That would be putting your player in a position to fail miserably. Especially with a young arm who doesnt always have pinpoint control. If he walks in that run, you blame ozzie for walking Morneau.

Then, add in the fact about the success Jenks has had against Morneau or how much better Morneau is against righties compared to lefties, Ozzie really put Masset in a hopeless situation. The way Nick sat down Cuddyer, im sure alot of people on here thought he would also sit down Morneau, he just turned on a fastball that wasnt a horrible pitch. striker
Ozzie should have left Javier in for the 8th. If he got in trouble, then bring in Aardsma. Aardsma is 10X better than MacDougal. Then bring Jenks in for the save. Ozzie always has to use 6 pitchers to get through the 7th & 8th innings. Righty vs. Righty and Lefty vs. Lefty. So stupid. While he did look good against Cuddyer (who's clearly not 100 pct and should have been pitched to in the 8th instead of Hunter), I don't think even the most optimistic of Sox fans liked his chances against Morneau. Masset's 93 mph inside fastball in that situation was not a good call, especially after Morneau was looking in after looking bad on an inside slider. There are maybe 5 guys I walk in that situation and a scuffling Morneau isnt one of them. If first base is open, then I walk him, but I dont move the winning run 4 balls away in that situation. Is this loss really that hard to take for everyone? The bullpen WILL blow some games, in fact maybe over 10-15 will be blown by the pen. It will happen, deal with it.
