RME JICO
You can't really compare AL teams to NL teams for stats like this. The Sox are 17 points behind Texas for 13th in the AL.

caulfield12
QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ May 23, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) We aren't last! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...amp;season=2007 in all seriousness though, i guess he has been teaching better the last week or so http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...amp;season=2007 I prefer runs scored. We're ahead of KC in runs per game, and closing in on Baltimore and Seattle. That's a little bit more important than Batting Average or (B)rian (A)nderson. witesoxfan
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 23, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...amp;season=2007 I prefer runs scored. We're ahead of KC in runs per game, and closing in on Baltimore and Seattle. That's a little bit more important than Batting Average or (B)rian (A)nderson. I prefer team OPS; it's .688. That's good for 30 points behind Baltimore for 2nd to last in the AL, and 27th in the majors.
GoodAsGould
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 23, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) I prefer team OPS; it's .688. That's good for 30 points behind Baltimore for 2nd to last in the AL, and 27th in the majors. I think as far as team stats go runs scored is more important. If we are looking at individual players i agree I tend to look at OPS.

caulfield12
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 23, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) Why the poop would you prefer ops when you're looking at team stats? There's only one area where you should prefer POOP to the runs, lol...sorry, that was too easy.
Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 23, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) Why the poop would you prefer ops when you're looking at team stats? Because it's more predictive of future runs scored than is R/G. OPS correlates to runs scored at about a coefficient of .97.

OPS correlates to runs scored at about a coefficient of .97. Runs scored correlates to runs scored at a coefficient of 1.00. How can OPS be "more predictive"? OPS correlates to runs scored at about a coefficient of .97. Cheat, I have no idea what any of this outside of R/G means. Where does this rank me with regards to my qualifications to work for the Sox scouting staff? In all seriousness, please keep it simple for goofs like me.
