Thank goodness for a day UFC event tomorrow. Gives me a reason not to watch baseball.

Anderson by KO RD 3. I think it will be a competitive match.

BJ by TKO in the 4th. Another one sided beatdown until the ref stops it.

Renzo by sub in the 3rd. I think Hughes will play it safe to grind out a win and will control the fight until Renzo pulls something out of his ass.

Munoz by split decision.

Frankie Edgar with the great win over BJ, and Anderson Silva putting on the most boring performance ive ever seen. I dont know what was wrong with him once the third round hit, he just put it in cruise control and danced around the ring.

If you've stumbled this far on accident then I feel its my obligation to tell you DO NOT order this card. Complete and utter crap.

1. Anderson Silva mocking and toying Maia was all good for 2 rounds but come the 3rd, its time to finish him off and stop disrespecting everyone from Maia, the fans at the event and the PPV buyers. The UFC has to make Silva fight either GSP or a heavyweight to ensure a good fight. If not, the UFC risks Silva doing this s*** for another 25 minutes.

2. Frankie with a huge upset but to be honest, I was completely bored. I watched the whole fight and caught myself going cross-eyed a few times because I was zoning out. I had no clue on who won that fight when Buffer started reading the cards.

3. Renzo and Hughes was a let down. Hughes didnt want nothing to do with the ground. Renzo actually was the better puncher but Hughes' just killed him with those kicks. I really wished Hughes wouldve tried to give the fans an exciting fight instead of trying to outpoint Gracie. Nothing worse than seeing two grapplers engage in a kickboxing fight.

I took a buddy to the Foundry in Naperville to watch the event tonight. He's not an mma fan, but I thought if I brought him, he could start to get into it after a great night of two championship bouts. Huge mistake. It was basically dancing with the stars tonight, except he had to pay the five dollar cover charge to get in.

By far the most boring mma event I have ever seen.

I'm gonna start from the beginning of the night & work up since I've got quite a bit to say about the whole Silva debacle.

-I know it's early, but I like Phil Davis a lot. A lot of people are talking Jon Jones as the future of the 205 division, but I'd have to think that Phil's close behind him. At least talent wise.

-Munoz survived an ass kicking to win that one. Grove's just got too many holes in his game.

-Eitm wanted to get his Jiu-Jitsu on & paid for it.

-Renzo looked BAD. Hughes didn't look great either, we watched a sparring exhibition with this one. It's about time they both ride off into the sunset.

-I scored the fight for Penn. I gave him rounds 1, 2 & 4. The fightmetric stats gave BJ the fight 49-47. But honestly, I don't have much of a beef with it. BJ just seemed off like something was wrong. His corner told him to go for a takedown, but BJ wasn't having it. I'd really like to know what was going on. Although, the only beef I do have was with the judge who gave every round to Edgar. What the hell was he watching? Either way, Edgar stuck to his gameplan & it worked for him. It's a damn shame that it's gonna be overshadowed by a guy who decided to dance in the cage all night....

-Maia earned my respect, he was willing to fight.

-Here's the thing with Silva, I don't mind when he shows off a bit. I like some showmanship. But then it got to the point where I wanted to see him get his face caved in. Silva made a mockery of this fight. I don't know what he's trying to prove, but it's bulls***. If he's so talented & he wanted to punish Maia, then he would of finished him off in the 1st. Setting up a fight with GSP that would do HUGE numbers. Basically it's like this for me, I was a huge Silva fan when I got into MMA, tonight I hand in my fan club card. I have no interest watching him defend that title anymore. You can't make the argument that he's the best P4P...maybe in ability, but not in performance. I'll take Fedor or GSP for that. I much rather have a Brock Lesnar who plays up the bad guy role than someone like Silva who looks like he could give a f*** what happens in the octagon.

I give this card a C-.

Strikeforce thoughts:

They kind of, IMO without seeing the ratings, laid an egg tonight.

Mo/Gegard was a blanketfest, Gegard didn't do anything to push the action, credit to Mo, but I don't think that's the style CBS and Strikeforce wanted to showcase.

Similar with Melendez fight, but at least that was a great performance by Gilbert, that shot him up to #2 or 3 at LW in my book, I keep a motivated BJ at 1 (he didn't train with Marv Marenovich for the last fight) and could argue K-Flo at #2 with him, but again, not a fight people would stop and watch.

Shileds is awesome, but Strikeforce spent big money for them to bring Hendo in and that fight wasn't rematch worthy, also that was the last fight on Jake's contract and there's no champions clause in his old Elite XC deal, according to many sources he's a FA now and Dana said he was going to get him paid by either signing him to the UFC for WW or make Strikeforce break their salary structure to resign him.

The whole Mayhem Miller thing was ridiculous, some people may like it and say it would hype a rematch, but I doubt CBS likes that sort of thing and that may have hurt them...

oh well, the real way to tell if it was a winner night is the ratings.

Update: Confirmed by Joss Gross from SI.com on his twitter, Shields is a free agent and that guy is going to get PAID!

More Strikeforce thoughts.

King Mo used his wrestling like I assumed he would & it worked a lot better than I thought. Mousasi just looked very dis-interested. Either way, both men still have a long way to go. I think they'd both get smashed by top 10 competition.

Aoki just proved he wasn't worthy of his #2 ranking. Tonight showed how one-dimensional he is & I don't think he could hang with anyone in the top 10 in the U.S.

My favorite fighter outside of the UFC did it again. Henderson looked old tonight, after he landed that big shot it seemed that's all he had. So go get Shields Dana, go get him now.

I'm a big fan of the Diaz boys & the rest of the Gracie camp, but they came off looking like assholes tonight. Sure, Miller shouldn't of been in the cage but for everyone to jump him like that is something else. If they were suspended for a lengthy amount of time, I wouldn't be surprised or upset.

Either way, we probably saw our last Strikeforce show on CBS. 2 boring fights & an embarrassing moment probably sealed it's fate.

WEC next week.

If the event didnt suck enough, this fight killed SF for CBS. 3 fights in 2.5 hours.

King Mo and Mousasi was horrible. Mousasi acted like Mo was going to fall into a sub at any point. Weird game plan.

Aoki and Melendez was another snooze fest. Aoki needs to stay in Japan and Melendez needs to stay in SF. Neither one of them would be worth a crap in the UFC.

Shields with another fight in which he couldnt finish. I dont see the UFC spending that much money for him because he is boring. Henderson should have kept dropping the bombs in the first round instead of going to for position. Henderson looked bloated and old tonight.

Basically SF showed they are still second tier when it comes to talent. I'm interested in the heavyweight roster but nothing else. Cant wait to hear what Dana White has to say.

well, the early ratings are in and it completely bombed with adults 18-49, their only hope is that somehow the specific demos are amazing, but little chance of that.

Doesnt surprise me at all. They only attract the hardcore fans.

My friend isnt a UFC fan but he watches all the events with some of his other friends every time there is a PPV because they order it. They had no clue that there was an event on last night.

Speaking of those guys, I went to dinner with those guys a couple of weeks ago after UFC 111. It was to a japanese place so we're sitting with a few other people that we didnt know. Well someone in the group mentioned 111 and the person across from us asked if they knew of Dan Severn because he was from the same town as them. The people I was with had blank stare on their face as if thinking, "who the f*** are you talking about?" I had to inform them that he was a 3 champ and HOF'er. It was sad.

The UFC is getting big in the US, MMA isnt.

Part of this is due to other organizations not knowing how to build stars. The UFC excels in this. Instead of pushing that there are 3 title fights on the StrikeForce advertisements they just pushed the fact that Hendo was fighting.

If found guilty of domestic abuse, should this end the career of Tito Ortiz in the UFC?

I think it should.

Dana hinted he wasn't thrilled with the news but would let the facts shake out a little before they decide... he basically said outside murdering someone, hitting a woman is the worst thing you can do, so I wouldn't be shocked if they cut him.

...also, the Randy/Toney fight for 8/28 isn't officially signed yet, but looks like it will get done.

Didn't Anthony Johnson beat up his girlfriend? Double standard, but of course there has to be. Tito is the big name.

Somehow I doubt much of anything happened though. They're both f***ing attention whore drama queens who can't bother to put down the mirror unless it's to whore themselves on Twitter. Tito probably called Jenna a b**** and slapped her hand and then Jenna acted like a c*** about it.

All I know is that somewhere Mark Coleman is laughing.

It sounds like something big already went down between Tito and the UFC even before this. There was an interview I saw where Chuck said something to the effect of, "If (Tito) wants to come back to the UFC and fight me he can..." Maybe Tito is still with the company, but it sounds like he's already in some kind of dispute or something. Which of course isn't surprising, considering it's Tito.
