Strikeforce card Saturday with Overeem and Rogers for the belt as the main. Arlovski vs. Bigfoot and Jacare vs. Villasenor also on the card. I know a lot of people are just penciling in Overeem, but he's fought a lot of K-1 and his HW MMA opponents the last few years haven't been all that outstanding...

Easily his most impressive win IMO is against Hunt

Has a potential to be a very entertaining card, but I still have trouble with the Overeem/Rogers for the title. I don't care if the loss he is coming off to is Fedor, Rogers shouldn't be fighting for the title. How goofy will it be if Rogers wins and they have Fedor/Rogers II with Rogers as the champ? It will make them look minor league. IMO it should be Bigfoot/Overeem for the belt with Rogers/AA II. Not that AA had an impressive performance against Rogers last time, but that makes some sense to me.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about the Strikeforce card this weekend.

Should be some entertaining fights.

yeah, looking forward to it, but to me, Bellator has easily taken over as my 2nd favorite promotion, if Strikeforce wants to beef their roster up they should see what those contracts look like and see if they can snag some of those guys before the UFC out bids them. Bellator has a great way to build up young fighters.

To me the glaring weakness of Strikeforce right now is depth, they completely lack it and it cripples their matchmaking

SPOILERS:

Entertaining enough card. Gracie needs to fight more, I think he has a lot of talent, but needs to be more active. Jacare seemed to spin his wheels tonight, Smoking Joe is a tough vet, but I think Jacare needs to show a little more, his ground work was a little sloppy and he was gassing, but still has a ton of upside. AA is probably done, real boring hug-fest match. Overeem looked good, hopefully we get Fedor/Overeem in the fall.

If Gracie can improve his standup then he will be a force. Not many 6'4-6'5 light heavyweights out there.

Rogers looked like a person who had his soul taken. Where was the brash, aggressive fighter that fought Fedor? He looked timid from the opening minute. Sometimes lsoing takes a lot from a fighter, ie Arlovski. Guess Overeem can fight with roids. Nice performance by him.

I thought Jacare looked really good. He basically toyed with JV.

Just wondering, but where are all these Overeem ballsuckers coming from? He is what he is. I haven't even bothered reading anything on any MMA boards because on the UG theres like a thousand threads about how Fedor is scared and Overeem's better than Brock, yadda yadda yadda. Everyone and their mother knew Overeem-Rogers was going to be a short night for one of them, and it was Overeem who dominated. I mean I like the guy, and he's exciting, and he's legit, but what did he do that makes anyone in the world think he can hang with the most elite? I really didn't see anything to be honest. I saw a guy who put Brett Rogers in trouble and then Rogers couldn't defend. And while Rogers is a legit opponent, I really really really really doubt that there are only a handful of guys in the world who could make Brett Rogers look that bad. I think there are at least 5 in the UFC alone, and Strikeforce also has a couple. And who knows elsewhere.

My main impressions on that show though were that Jacare continues to look like a beast athletically and that AA really needs to cut the s*** and get back with Freddy Roach because he didn't look like a Mixed Martial Artist and he damn sure didn't look like a boxer either. AA couldn't have beaten Kimbo that night.

If you are a peeping tom, make sure the house you pick is not occupied by an MMA fighter

Okay, so overall, what is the opinion here on the UFC brand being synonymous with MMA? Is it good, bad, something else? In this case it might be a good thing, because it's a story that shows MMA in a positive light and kind of promotes the UFC at the same time, but in other cases, like that kid who stabbed his friend in a "UFC" fight, it hurts. Personally I don't like it, but I don't know if this stuff hurts the company overall.

I call it overhyping from a good performance syndrome (see Machida, Lyoto). Not saying that Lyoto or Overeem aren't any good, but until they face the elite I don't buy the hype.

Overeem didn't defend the title in like 2-3 years, we'll see how he does against Fedor (if it happens).

Other belated Strikeforce thoughts....

Either Silva looked really good or Arlovski looked really bad. I can't decide. I just know that Arlovski's career is falling HARD.

Jacare should improve on the cardio, but he should be able to handle his own in SF's 185 division.

Feijao also looked good, I wouldn't be surprised if he's up next for King Mo.

Gracie needs more stand up work. BAD. Only spending 20% of his camp working on stand up is far too little.

Lastly, Strikeforce's production SUCKS.

Commentary sucks & they don't show undercards. Not seeing the undercards doesn't really bother me but if they're trying to build new stars then they should show at least one if they have the time.

Rampage/Rashad next weekend. :headbang

Wait a sec... Lyoto didn't just have one good performance, his entire career has been nothing but superb performances. He was in a very close fight with Shogun the first fight and then he changed his style in the second fight and got KTFO for it. That doesn't mean he was overhyped. I don't know how you could watch him execute his style and feel he is/was overhyped.

Fedor should abolish Overeem. People are thinking that because Fedor had some issues with Rogers' size that Overeem, being better than Rogers and also big, would test Fedor. But Fedor would do what he always does and school Overeem. I actually think Overeem is an easier fight for Fedor than a rematch with Rogers would be since Overeem is going to fight Fedor's fight and Rogers in a rematch probably wouldn't. My guess would be that Rogers would try to use his one advantage (size) against Fedor. Alistair would just stand there and let Fedor KTFO him because as talented a kickboxer he is, he's not quick enough to utilize his reach and there's no way he'd be able to stop Fedor from coming inside and raping him. I mean, why do you think Coker is saying that even if Fedor wins he may not get Overeem? Coker doesn't want another Shields situation where the champ takes the belt and bolts. Coker is starting to act a lot more like a real promoter instead of that happy-go-lucky "we just wanna give back to the fans" guy he had been portraying himself as.

Arlovski looked terrible. I mean, if your gameplan is to outbox a dude, and you know you have very little in the way of power and you're looking for the decision, then for the love of God don't just stand in front of the guy and take power shots left and right. The AA with Roach would have annihilated the AA that fought Bigfoot. The same AA that fought Fedor or Rothwell would have torn the Strikeforce AA a new asshole and then used it as a hat. It's sad what has happened to that dude. I think Fedor ate his soul or something.

Jacare is just so fun to watch. He's one of those dudes that fans of athletes just fall in love with. The things that guy can do... Okay, sounding gay now...

Isn't Babalu next for King Mo? Maybe not, but I thought they mentioned him or something.

Agree on Roger, but all that will take time. It's just nice to see a Gracie get a televised win for a big US promotion.

Agree on Strikeforce's production too, and really everything including the entrances as well. The video packages are also weak. I can't stand Gus Johnson either. I do like the thing they do with the main events where they play the gong sound and hit the lights. It's a nice touch and I'm happy they keep doing it.

Gracie needs some stand up work but I think it would be a huge mistake to do more striking than wrestling. Nothing annoys me more than seeing awesome grapplers try to turn into below average kickboxers.

And in this country, MMA isnt popular but the UFC is. And in the news these MMA fighter's will always be called "ultimate fighters" because everyone knows what an ultimate fighter is. I watched the event with my friend and most of his friends who watch the UFC didnt even know there was an event going on.

I'm not saying that he isn't good. But he was overhyped a bit. From hearing the sound clip of "Welcome to the Machida era" to people saying he's gonna hold onto the title for a long time. People were in awe over the fact that he used a karate base IMO.

the 205 weight class in the UFC is insanely deep, I think guys are going to have a hard time defending the belt twice.

Has anyone ever thought about changing the name of the thread to 'MMA thread'

Anyhow, Moosin event tonight, featuring Pudzianowski vs Tim Sylvia.

I'm a big Pudzianowski fan, but I do think he has no business being in the MMA, and Sylvia will probably annihilate him. (Sylvia weighed in at 305 and his physique looks awful), regardless of that I will be watching tonight.

I was actually just thinking about that now, after reading KHP's response to the story I posted. It makes sense

Sylvia looked out of shape even for his own standards. I hope he gets embarrassed again just like he did against Mercer. I find him boring as hell but I've always felt bad for him because no one is really of fan of his un-athletic ass. But it's obvious he thinks he can just stroll in and win easy tonight. Maybe he does win easy but after getting KOed by Mercer, you'd think he'd be a little smarter for this fight and atleast try to be in shape. If he loses tonight he will probably lose any shot at fighting in a big stage promotion ever again.

Two events in 24 hours with Dream starting in 3 hours. Sakuraba is probably my favorite fighter of all time and I hope he doesnt lose to Rorion's son.

Not really excited about 114 outside of the main event. But I think Rampage will catch Evans at some point in the fight.

In the little over 3 years that I've been watching MMA, I haven't been this excited to see a fight. They've done a great job of hyping up Rashad/Rampage.

With that being said, I hope to see Rashad get his head knocked off tomorrow night.

one of the most potentially explosive fights is Diabate/Cane. It's not scheduled for Spike or the PPV, but if that fight pops up on either broadcast I will be glued to the set.

Todd Duffee also fights and he has had the hype machine since his 6 second KO.
