danman31
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 3, 2010 -> 11:46 PM) I'm a follower. He did it so I did as well. Fair enough. If you're trying to avoid the result at this point, this thread isn't where you should be. I am amazed Lesnar survived the first to win. That was insane. He looked overmatched, but wow. He took a big punch on the chin and several more on the ground (which appeared to wear out Carwin) and still won. That amazes me.
zenryan
What a fight! Brock still looks scared on his feet and you saw tonight that he's never been hit. But once on the ground he really didnt take many shots. Carwin was throwing some bombs but Brock's arms are so big that he really does a good job in hiding behind them. Once Brock got to his feet, you could tell Carwin lost his chance to win. I think Brock needs to press the action from the start. His standup isnt good at all so why give the opposition a chance to strike first? I guess Lesnar will be the first person not named Fedor as the number 1 ranked fighter since March of 2003. But after seeing Carwin blow it and Lesnar really look bad for the first 4 minutes, I still think Fedor is the best heavyweight fighter in the world. The result is all over the internet anyway. I did it because it was literally a minute after the fight ended and I didnt want someone coming into the thread complaining that they hadnt seen the result and they were waiting to watch it blah blah blah. Lesnar really was running after that Carwin uppercut, and I thought that the ref was going to call it a few times, but he hung in there and absorbed some punishment and let Carwin tire himself out. That side triangle was a vice grip, you could see that Carwin had no shot at coming out of that.
SoxFan562004
It was only Brock's 6th MMA fight and that 1st round will probably be the best learning experience he also had, also, even though Randy Couture is not a submission specialist, you can see how working with Randy helped Brock use his wrestling to get a sub

Lesnar works with some very good submission wrestlers like Erick Paulson and he credited the arm triangle to Comprido in his post fight press conference. That is one impressive coaching staff Brock's got right there.

SoxFan562004
Mark Hunt is on the 119 card for the UFC, may seem odd considering he isn't exactly on a warpath right now, but Dana said they owed him fights on his PRIDE contract, I'm just surprised he's going to be able to cut to 265. I can see it, they have 4 shows in a month and a half and it was this or buy him out, might as well get something for your money, he could also provide a spectacular KO. Faber is of WEC 50 with an injury, but looking at September to fight again, he will be fighting at 135 now. King Mo vs. Feijao for the belt, Tim Kennedy vs. Jacare for Shields old belt (original talk was a tournament, but Coker said they will have this fight then a smaller tournament for #1 contender, which Cung Le and Hendo will NOT be a part of), KJ Noons vs. Gurgel and Lashley vs. TBA for a 8/21 show in Houston. SF is also talking about having Fedor vs. Overeem for the title, yes that would be two guys coming off losses fighting for the HW title. It has something to do with M-1 and contracts, Fedor has one fight left on his SF and despite what Dana is saying SF is afraid to let him play it out and walk. I'm a Shields fan, so I disagree. I think that he's not really a draw because SF sucks at making stars. Thoughts?
GoodAsGould
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I read an article that basically said Shields isn't a draw, which is why Strikeforce had no problem letting him go. I'm a Shields fan, so I disagree. I think that he's not really a draw because SF sucks at making stars. Thoughts? He is a solid fighter but I'd go with the thought process of him not really being a draw, but to be fair in the world of MMA I dont think there really are many fighters that are legit draws. SoxFan562004
I'd go with a mix of both of you two... there isn't a ton of draws in MMA, in fact, there really has never been a big draw outside of the UFC that wasn't Kimbo or Gina since "UFC" itself is really the biggest draw in U.S. MMA. Honestly, SF is spinning this, they majorly dropped the ball with that whole situation. As much as I love Dan Henderson, he was not a proven draw, even with him highlight reeling Bisping at 100, the UFC knew this, wouldn't overpay him or give him an automatic rematch at Anderson (they wanted him to fight Nate) then SF snapped him up, made him basically the lone focal point for their CBS show in the NCAA Tournament advertising and let Shields fight him on the last fight of his contract with no champions clause. Basically SF knew Dana would overpay him if necessary to take him away from SF and SF cut him to move on and basically cut his negotiation leverage. Hell yes! i get to see Diego fight again, unfortunately as a huge Nightmare fan i think him vs paulo thiago will mark the point in his career where he realizes that he needs to go down and STAY down at lightweight, IF he does in fact lose this fight.. SoxFan562004
http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...1&zoneid=14 UFC on Vs. 2 is on Sunday, looks like it could be an entertaining card, will be interested to see how Munoz looks in a pretty decent step up in competition and Griffin/Gomi could be interesting... always interested to see how Jones is progressing, the Janitor is a tough opponent, maybe not an upper level guy, but a tough vet for sure. Also in an interesting note Big John McCarthy will be reffing on the card, first UFC card in a long time, he was a judge on a recent WEC show though. He's hilarious. That said, Anderson should win with relative ease. Yeah, he is selling the hell out of the fight, good for him, wouldn't be surprised if Zuffa offered him a bonus if he could bump Andersons usual mediocre PPV numbers. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's card.
Marky Mark
Did you hear him make the comments about Lance Armstrong inducing cancer upon himself, then turn around the next day and claim it wasn't him saying that? Hilarious.
zenryan
I never cared for Sonnen until this fight. The guy is funny as f***. I would love to see him win but I think it might be best for the UFC that Silva retains.
