Kobe To the Bulls Rumors

No listing of the Bulls there, but they have more to trade than Dallas does. (They were the two teams Kobe was okaying a trade to earlier)

Gosh I hope so. This Bulls team as currently constructed doesn't strike me as a group capable of winning a title, and this offseason wasn't exactly encouraging. Paxson made a move that parallels Williams signing someone like Eckstein (or Erstad last winter) by going out and overpaying to bring back Nocioni (seriously -- maybe he didn't fit in $$$ wise, but wouldn't Darko've made some sense?). Joe Smith and Noah are aquisitions that are rather tough to get excited about. Don't get me wrong -- the Bulls are a pretty good team capable of playing with just about any team in the East. But I still don't think they're set up well for the playoffs. Gordon is useless defensively and (seems to be) shut down by elite defenders -- he's a guy I've been wanting Paxson to sell high on. Deng is pretty good, but seeing that he has a limit athletically, I think that limits what he can be -- which in and of itself isn't a problem, but I can't see him being the guy to take over a series when they really need it. Ty Thomas is exciting, but can he develop down low? I have no hopes for Noah to develop any semblence of a post-game, and obviously Wallace isn't going to do anything on the offensive end.

We should be able to play good defense, though. I guess my problem lies with Ben Gordon. In series' where he's got a Rob Bowen type guarding him, he's completely useless because he's not helping on the other end, and that really, really hurts on the defensive end because he's the guy other teams attack.

You know, if Kobe actually DOES become a Bull, how long do you think Skiles lasts as the head coach? Skiles is notorious for not wanting to deal with star attitudes, and doesnt cater to anyone. Kobe has been spoonfed and coddled for pretty much his entire tenure as a Laker, how would he adjust to Skiles demanding constant defense?

Somehow I dont see this getting done if Deng is involved. Maybe a sign and trade with Gordon and some other pieces.

If the Bulls could pair Kobe and Deng for a long period of time, the Bulls will definitely be the team to beat for a while

the notion that kobe is a poor defender is an antiquated one...he has actually become a very strong defensive player

this seems really unlikely. I don't think Kobe is moving.

The Lakers are in a bad position with him. He can opt out of his contract soon (I believe after 08-09) so unless some serious bridge mending is done they will likely have to move him this year or in the offseason so they don't get him nothing

The Kobe Bryant-to-Chicago trade talks are very real, and they've been real for a while.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls have been having daily discussions about Bryant trade possibilities for at least the past week, with Bryant's no-trade clause throwing a unique wrench into the situation, according to sources.

The Lakers are asking for a package built around Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah, which is more than Chicago is willing to surrender. Also, Bryant would not want to play in Chicago if the Bulls surrendered all four of those players, believing there would not be enough talent left to compete for a championship, and he would veto that trade even if the Bulls and Lakers were both in favor of it.

Further complicating matters is the division within the upper echelon of the Lakers front office, a house divided between the competing desires of owner Jerry Buss, his son, Jim, daughter Jeanie (and her boyfriend, coach Phil Jackson) and general manager Mitch Kupchak. According to sources, one faction seems more determined than ever to part with Bryant, while others still are hanging onto the belief that Bryant can still be persuaded to stay in Los Angeles.

Bryant sat out the Lakers' final exhibition game Friday night in Las Vegas after injuring his right wrist in the Lakers' previous game. It has become an accepted fact around the Lakers that Bryant still wishes to be traded, and two sources with direct knowledge of the ongoing trade discussions said Bryant's preferred -- and most likely -- destination remains Chicago.

So while the NBA's only no-trade clause gives Bryant a substantial amount of leverage in determining his future, it also is hampering the Lakers in their efforts to get something approaching fair value for arguably the best player in the league. One source said the Bulls' supposed opposition to including Deng in any deal had been overstated in recent media reports.

A source told ESPN.com that the likelihood of a Bryant trade before opening night seemed higher a few days ago than it does now, and a deal going down sometime before the end of November now seemed more likely. But the situation remained fluid, and with other teams trying to lobby the Bryant camp to get on the list of his acceptable destinations, the trade possibilities surrounding Bryant only figured to increase in the days leading up to Tuesday night's start of the NBA season.

Jackson said he expected Bryant to play Tuesday night in the season opener against the Houston Rockets.

Bryant was injured after Utah center Mehmet Okur struck him Tuesday night in an exhibition game in Anaheim.

Chris Sheridan covers the NBA for ESPN Insider. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I would pack Ben Gordon's bags for him if we could get Kobe. As long as Deng is not included. Why not offer a draft pick instead?

mainly cuz a bulls draft pick has no real value at this point...they will likely not pick above 20 and probably closer to 25 the next couple years, and frankly thats pretty worthless....a solid role player is the best you can hope for there

As of today per 670 and espn 1000, the deal is still on the table. Deng isn't in any trade. Nor will there be a combination of Gordon and Heinrich. It looks basically like the deal starts with Gordon, Thomas and Noah. How else they figure out to make money work is going on and apparently the Bulls and Lakers are just looking around right now for a 3rd/4th team to make this deal go down.

Paul Pierce was mentioned, which baffled me. Arenas was mentioned and he is another one that totally confuses me. If they get a 3rd team involved why not look for the teams that are desperate to trade their allstar caliber players. The likes of Memphis with Gasol, Utah w/ Kirlienko (sp), and even the Suns w/ Marion. It seems like those would be more logical teams to join the party.

One more thing...the Lakers are discovering very quickly that all this power of "we don't need to deal kobe" that they thought they had is not the case.

So far I'd say Kobe holds the cards b/c if a deal is struck, he can and will veto it.

At the same time, the Bulls are right with him since they really don't need to make this deal. They are content with their team and are a top 4 Eastern conference team as it stands today.

The Lakers are really stuck because they do not want Kobe. Kobe will play if there is no trade but how will LA react the first time he scores 14 points in a losing effort to the Mavs. The media, fans and front office will all do the speculation of he is not trying.

So to me, the sooner they accept any deal the better or they are going to be in for a world of trouble this season.

In analyzing any deal for Kobe, you also have to factor in a year from now which players he will demand to be traded. Please stay away from him.

This has pretty much been proven to be bulls***. Jerry Buss more than anybody wanted Shaq out of LA, he was sick of O'Neal's bulls***. Kobe is not responsible for Shaq's departure.

If it doesn't happen by tomorrow's tip off of the Bulls game, there is no way this can happen until mid December when Noc becomes tradeable. That is, unless of course the Wizards 3 team deal thing becomes more than a rumor. Either way, I can't see this drama lasting much longer. There has to be some kind of resolution soon.
