fathom
I think it's great that Fields is getting some time at SS.

BearSox
Why is Anderson DH'ing? Does it have something to do with that injury he had a while ago? I think Fields would be a defensive disaster at SS, but I'm probably wrong. Getz didn't play today. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get moved up to AAA. I'm assuming it's simply because that's what they want to focus on, and they also want Sweeney to work on CF reads and defense. Fields is the closest thing they have to a SS right now, and they aren't gonna play him at 2B, a position Tomas can handle. Getz has been hurt. Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) I think it's great that Fields is getting some time at SS. This should be an obvious indication we're past the "don't move Fields to another position because it'll decrease his value" phase. Concern now is whether he's handling himself well, defensively. I find it interesting the move happened now. And that it didn't even involve a move to LF. Uribe may not even be on this club entering August. Now all Williams has to worry about is our OF, 2B, bullpen, rotation, and whether Fields to SS means Crede will play out remaining arbitration season here. Good luck in that. whitesoxfan101
Bailey is 5-1 with a 1.89 in triple A and really still can barely control any of his breaking stuff. He's going to be a nightmare in a couple years when he has his stuff figured out. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 28, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) CHARLOTTE HAS NO ONE ELSE TO PLAY THE MIDDLE INFIELD That is what I thought about Fields at SS too, although with Uribe's play lately, you never know. Chisoxfn
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 28, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) but I really begin to question why they havent tried him in CF yet. We got Erstad, Sweeney, and Brian Anderson that project there. He's just at SS because the Sox have no one in AAA right now who can play short (we really don't have one in the entire minor league system). However, I figure being at short could help him a bit but I'm with Bear it can't be pretty with him playing short.

earthshiner
Fields at ss and Gustavo playing third. Must be a nightmare to watch ground balls to the left side.
