Your man crush on Erstad continues... :P

Of course. I appreciate the way he plays the game. I also understand you can't have 9 superstars in your lineup and Erstad is the type of role playing starter that flat out helps you win.

One bad read...big whoops. It sucked and it could have bit the Sox but the guy has played superb in center.

I know the Mackowiak experience made everyone appreciate anyone that can catch the ball, but his defense is just incredibly overrated right now. For someone that can't contribute anything with his arm, he's made too many mistakes out there. That's already 6 or 7 he's made this year.

In terms of defense, he's our 3rd best defensive CF in the last 3 years. Now I know that's a high standard, but 3rd best out of 3 years does not equal superb.

What, when Rowand was one of the 3-4 best in the game 2 seasons ago. Brian Anderson was one of the 3-4 best in the game last season. Ya, that would mean superb. In fact I think Erstad has been as good as those two were (or at least very close).

I agree with all this, but his defense is absoultely nowhere near superb.

That was a nice inning. It's like a flashback to yesterday, great approach one inning and horrible the next. Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde.

I don't mind him at all. He's played well. Hopefully we'll get a FA for CF for next season and Ersty could be in left next year or as a 4th OF.

1. Anderson (slight edge due to arm, but he didn't exactly light up the assist meters either)

2. Erstad

3. Rowand

And it's a lot closer between BA and Erstad than Darin and Aaron.

See, I never bought into the hype of either of those guys defensively. All three of our recent center fielders are terrible at throwing accurately with anything on the ball, and all of them make too many mistakes for their "billing". Erstad has been fine on defense, but he's nowhere near as good as Hawk, Ozzie, etc. make him out to be.

As far as the reads he gets, absolutely, he is up there with the best. I think the fact that he is older and his body isn't what it once was makes people think less of the guy as a fielder. He's taken a ridiculous amount of punishment over his career and he's still an above average centerfielder.

Personally, as much as I love Rowand, I think he was overrated out there. He had a lot of nice catches, but they were only nice catches because he made a bad read and had to make up for it by bailing himself out.

yea like ichiro :cheers

Hunter will be too expensive if he continues to stay healthy and puts up comparable numbers, same with Ichiro...Andruw Jones' price might be falling, but the downside of a long-term contract at this point in his career will cause KW to shy away.

We both know Erstad would never, ever be in our plans as a 4th outfielder. If I had to guess right now, we'll see Rowand in CF and Erstad in LF next year.

I'll put it this way.

Arm:

Anderson > Rowand > Erstad

Range

Anderson > Rowand/Erstad (even)

Routes

Erstad > Rowand > Anders

Anderson was by far the most talented and because of it the best, but Erstad takes super routes and gets the best reads of the bunch. Rowand was just flat out solid at everything (although I know most will knock his arm because its not as accurate as it should be and fact of the matter in 05 his arm was piss poor).

Possible, I'd welcome Rowand back, but we sure as hell better not break the bank to do it.
