HeGone33
Getting into an argument with a co-worker here so I figured I would see what some of the experts here think. I know both are pretty fast but is it really clear who is faster?

RME JICO
In a 40 yard dash on a track? On the basepaths? Out of the batter box? In the outfield? During an SB attempt?
RockRaines
Owens is clearly faster on a track, and im sure he has numbers out there. But Pie may be faster on the base paths.
southsideirish71
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Owens is clearly faster on a track, and im sure he has numbers out there. But Pie may be faster on the base paths. Doesnt matter. Owens should start in leadoff every day to see what we have.
fathom
Pie's faster....but that's nothing to be ashamed about.
Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) Doesnt matter. Owens should start in leadoff every day to show that it shouldn't cost $1M to $3M to get a light hitting, low-OBP speedster to play OF. Dick Allen
Owens shouldn't be leading off.
witesoxfan
Owens should hit the weight room regardless of whether it takes a little of his speed with him, I think he's thinner than Juan Pierre. And, according to weights and heights, I might be right. Yahoo has Pierre listed at 5'11, 180 opposed to Owens at 6'3 190. 4 inches should be more than 10 pounds. knightni
It's like Willie Mays Hayes. You can't steal bases if you keep going 0 for 5 every night.

Good your coming along. How about sweeney is he a step above Gustavo, I would trade him too, oh and andersen too. In fact I would trade all three of those clowns for Pie. Not many people see Owens as much more than a 4th outfielder, it's been that way for a while.
HeGone33
So can someone maybe find some speed ratings somewhere? I know Jerry was rated fastest in our minor league system.

Chisoxfn
Was it Paulo Orlando?
Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) Was it Paulo Orlando? Even if Owens was "rated" faster than Orlando, he'd see nothing but his back in a foot race.

I agree...Orlando is ridiculously fast and he's made a lot of progress at the plate (plus he has some nice peripheal tools). Still very raw player though.
