Note to KW,

This season is OVAH, for all intents and purposes, without Joe Crede.

That means that the short-sighted drafting of another college reliever (see Ring, Royce or even Fogg, Josh) would be idiotic.

We need catchers, middle infielders and outfielders more than anything. There are a few that should be available when the Sox pick. I don't want to see KW's quote in the paper tomorrow, "We felt this was our best chance to compete this year. We don't believe in rebuilding here, we're reloading, and the price other clubs were asking for quality relief pitching was not commensurate with what I wanted to give up in return from our system. Usually we take the "best player available," but we feel Mr. Weathers is "big league ready" and can contribute to our bullpen immediately. In fact, I was speaking to Ozzie last week and he said, "Get me some right-handed relievers that can throw strikes." Well, Ozzie, here you go. And no, I don't see any commonality between this pick and Royce Ring, there's nothing wrong with taking a reliever in the 1st round even though we desperately need position prospects to replenish our lower minors."

i saw casey for two years at vandy...dude throws chedd... 75Ks in 49 IP is pretty nuts....weathers is consistently 96 with his fastball and can run it up to 99....threw a few sliders at the regional clocked at 91 (my friend works the mph gun)...that said the fact that the sox only have 1 pick in the top few roudns i dont think they'll use it on a reliever, though i did see in baseball america they said hed be better than former college closer chad cordero and as good, but a different type of pitcher than houston street

they have the cubs draftin a firstbaseman/thirdbaseman. last time i checked they do have aramis for 3rd and d-lee for 1st

draftees dont usually make an impact immediately. You have to plan for the future with the draft, D Lee and A Ramirez arent going to be around forever
