Kannapolis kicks a late field goal, but still falls by two touchdowns, 18-6. Carter finishes 1-5, Shelby 2-4, and Gartrell with a knock.

Oneli Perez spoils Gio's great effort, giving up one of Gio's runs and one of his own.

MacDougal has a perfect inning. Anderson and Tomas Perez both with 2 hits so far.

I think I made a comment on this sometime last month, but one of the nice improvements Gio has made this year (beyond the fantastic K/9 and H/9) has been keeping the ball on the ground more. After a 10-to-5 GO/FO ratio tonight, his season total is up to 1.43. I wonder if that's because of an improved changeup or perhaps some different (new?) type of movement on the fastball.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 11:32 PM)
He's been working on developing his change, IIRC.

I'm not positive on this, but I have read that part of his struggles last year were he was just first throwing the changeup then, and that this year the changeup is both helping him with his GO/AO, as well as the fact he keeps the pitch down is lowering his home run allowed numbers. Now part of it is obviously the ballpark, but he's only given up 6 homers to last years 24, and he's already halfway to last years workload. And I'm sure a part of it is also he's just getting older and better with experience.
