South Side Fireworks Man
Can someone look up and post how many game winning hits or RBI's to take the lead Thome has? Maybe that would convince me that I'm wrong if he's near the top in those categories. In 2005, Carl Everett led the league most of the year in driving in runs to take the lead. That's why he was nicknamed "The Chauffer" by DJ. That's what I mean by "clutch", not OBP or OPS.
quickman
maybe the players were saying goodbye to each other. Its simple this team is done. Shake hands and wait for the trades. Time to declare this debacle over.

South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) I love ignorant meathead fans. I bet you wish the Bears woulda started Kyle Orton too. I love whiners who resort to personal attacks when they disagree with someone. For the record, I never wanted Kyle Orton to start, so you lose your bet. But that has nothing to do with White Sox baseball, which I thought this forum was about. All I asked was how many Go-ahead RBI's Thome had. I don't know the answer so I thought one of the stat heads here could inform me. What a mistake I made asking a question about White Sox baseball here, I guess. And although you're response seems irrelevant and really doesn't deserve a response by me, if you've inferred somehow that I don't want Thome in the Sox' starting lineup you're sadly mistaken. In fact I hope he starts some of the games in NL parks. I always said he's a good hitter but I just don't think he has come through in the clutch as much as he is expected to. And I didn't single him out either. In my post I mentioned the middle of the Sox order has not produced and I named the middle of the order: Konerko, Dye and Thome. These three are being paid to carry the offense and right now it's nearly the worst offense in baseball. Right away some here overreacted that I mentioned Thome. I guess he's been driving in a lot of clutch runs late in close games that somehow I'm not remembering. But there is no disputing that the offense has been the major reason the Sox are off to a poor start. Now go whine and call names all you want. santo=dorf
Maybe nobody gave you an answer because we felt we did enough research to show that Thome isn't a problem to this team. Why don't you look up whatever stats you want? You have access to the same sites I use. I gave you the numbers for the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings along with his numbers with RISP and how they compare to the rest of the league. Give it a rest. RBI's isn't the best measure for offensive value anyways. Nobody gets on in front of him, and the guys hitting behind him aren't earning their paycheck. Why pitch to him knowing how big of a difference maker he is? It's just like Barry Bonds. Edited June 11, 2007 by santo=dorf
greg775
The Sox were not a "fluke" in 05. The baseball season is too long for any champ to be labeled a fluke. The team survived the season and dominated the postseason. It was a great team and the pitching only got better as the postseason progressed. It was perfection, not a fluke. He is a moron for saying that. No, there was no dynasty. The team was one and done, but it was not a fluke.
retro1983hat
Once I heard we had the "players only meeting" I knew the season was officially over. Good teams don't have those meetings. Bad teams do. This team is exactly like every one except 2005 and first half 2006. We play around .500 or worse all year and then make a run in late August to get within 3 games of a playoff spot. I get excited and start putting my heart back into them. They lose for a week straight in September. Season over. LVSoxFan
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) Thome, Dye and Konerko need to step up and carry this team like they're supposed to. The responsibility for this team's success or failure falls squarely on their shoulders. BINGO. These guys get the big bucks. Start earning them. BTW who are our "leaders"? Time for them to step up.
