"They are playing for the wrong general manager and the wrong manager if they are set on losing every day," Guillen said. "Kenny (Williams) won't sit there watching the way we are playing right now and cross his fingers and pray. He will do something else if we continue to play this way."

Lies. All lies.

Because of the WS, Ozzie has a chance to prove that he can coach young players. If he refuses to do it, he should be canned. There aren't any other options, and he'd better figure that out.

What young players? What young players do you expect Ozzie to be managing? We obviously have all of this major league ready talent in the minors just waiting for their opportunity.

I think he means if Ozzie dicks around with Fields like he's hinted at.

Hack job. They didn't play small ball in 2005 and Konerko and Dye were on that team. Yeesh.

Yes PK and Dye were on that team, but we did play small ball. How did we score the only run in Game 4 of the WS? Slap single. Bunt gets him to 2nd. Grounder gets him to 3rd. Base hit up the middle.

I'd say that Ozzie did a pretty good job of coaching that rookie closer down the stretch in '05, no?

The Sox didn't go into this year to season to develop young players. They went in to win with their vets and expected guys like Danks, Massett, Aardsma, Logan, etc. to contribute right off the bat.

But since their situation has obviously changed, Ozzie WILL have to develop young players and deal with the inevitable growing pains. We'll see how that goes.

I haven't heard this. This year? What other options does Ozzie have besides play Fields most days? Mackowiak and Cintron are just as bad at hitting and Fields looks better on defense. This should be a no brainer. Let the kid play, get comfortable, and get experience.

That is one case - however the Sox had a ton of HRs and scored the majority of their runs on home runs. Home runs are not small ball.

That's it. But I'd extend it to anyone else KW wants to bring up.

This team is just awful. Cintron and Mack aren't likely to be around for the next contending Sox team. I'll be real pissed if I see them starting 1/2 the games.

I think some are still pissed about Brian Anderson and Brandon McCarthy. I think they were both jokes, but some around here like to blame Ozzie for them being off the team. Also they blame Ozzie for Sean Tracey - it wasn't because Tracey has no talent - it was because Ozzie yelled at him and made him cry. Blah blah blah.

Who Jackie? What talent do you see coming up that is any good? WHO!? We have seen it all. There is Sweeney and Fields and some young arms. That is it. That is it! Anderson blows. Owens blows.

Exactly. We'll see. I'm not saying anything should be done now. But if Fields is on the bench every other game, I hope Ozzie is gone sooner rather than later. Hell, even a quarter of the games. Fields should be starting 95% of the games, no matter what he's doing.

So far, Ozzie has been dead right about every prospect he said couldn't play.

Fields, and I'd like to see Sweeney up. And if KW wants Anderson up, he should play, whatever you think about him. (Personally, I'm surprised he's not on the dl, but I assume the Sox know what they're doing.) Anyone who's showed promise that KW thinks should be in the show. What I don't want is over-the-hill utility infielders taking half the abs from a young guy who's looked good in the minors. Do you disagree, or not?

That was one game. The Sox bunt a lot every year under Guillen (including last year). They haven't much this year cause no one is on base. In 2005 they 200 home runs -- 5th best in baseball. That team had power...

Why does everybody keep insisting that we didn't play small ball in 2005?

//boggles

Yeah we had home run power and won a lot of games that way, especially in the playoffs. But in the regular season? Come on...

Does it really even matter anymore if Ozzie is our manager? This core group isn't going to get it done, and the next time we're going to be in playoff contention, it will be with an entirely different group. Ozzie seems to have very little patience for young players that don't come up and contribute right away. However, we're going to have to deal with those growing pains as we go though the rebuilding process. It might be better to bring in a manager who has a little more patience.

Someone with a little MORE patience...?? Oye.. you can't get more relaxed in that clubhouse than Ozzie. Mr "Let's just forget about it and go get a beer".

You know I was referring to patience with young players.

No, I didn't. Thanks for clarifying. But for the record, IMO you are incorrect.

I agree with you. I know everyone will point to guys like Brandon and Brian, but there are also plenty of examples of him throwing guys into key situations, and giving them plenty of chances.
