I agree with you. I know everyone will point to guys like Brandon and Brian, but there are also plenty of examples of him throwing guys into key situations, and giving them plenty of chances.

They can point all they want. But be sure when they do that they also take into consideration their actions as well. Their demise with the Sox was not without their contribution.

He's basically thrown guys right into the fire, and when they fail at first(most young players are going to fail right away) then they basically get thrown under the bus. And it seems like it's taken a whole week before he's got tired of Fields. Ozzie hasn't exactly proven that he can be patient with young players and if we're going to rebuild, he's going to have to learn.

Josh Fields isn't ready to be in the majors yet. It doesn't matter how many lumps he takes, until he fixes his swing, it will be the same results.

No doubt, if you go out and play hard everyday, and listen to the staff, they will protect you to the ends of the earth.

I wont argue that but if he's up here, he needs to play. Sitting him on the bench is only going to slow down his progression. He wasn't brought up here to sit on the bench and by Ozzie's recent comments, that might be exactly what is going to happen soon.

Well someone needs to prove their job then. If he cant fix the vets then the least he can do is to fix Fields. I suspect by the end of the year Fields will be hitting 290 with the best hitting coach in baseball helping him everyday.

Every time Ozzie has given up on a player he's been right. If he gives up on Fields, I'm guessing he'll be right about Fields as well. Ozzie was the only person with the Sox who thought Terrero was better than Anderson and he's been right about that.

Gonzalez isn't going to play everyday. Its obvious this was a motivational shot towards Fields. Ozzie does this stuff all of the time. Unless Fields is a complete idiot, he is going to be playing at least 5 days a week. hell he played Anderson for months before he finally benched him, and that was dispite all of the extra crap going on behind the scenes.

If Ozzie loses his job because his team was the worst in baseball this year, I think I'll hate KW and JR, especially if the replacement is someone like Razor Shines.

Shines as manager might just be enough to keep my money in the bank...

The irony is under JR, he has given three people who have been Manager of the Year with the Chicago White Sox, their first jobs. I wonder how many ownership groups can say that?

Ozzie is a special type of manager. He's Tony LaRussa with a mouth and there's nothing wrong with that. I love it. If we won't keep Ozzie as our manager, someone else will take him and we'll be stuck with crap for years and years. Again.

I know everybody hates their manager, especially when they're losing, but any move to replace Guillen would be foolish. He IS the White Sox to the average fan; he loves the White Sox; he knows baseball.

I'm no Ozzie apologist and this year for the first time ever I started thinking about the team without him and what that would be like (and this from a guy who wanted him here 100% and loved KW for hiring him).

But back up here.

We have veteran players like Konerko, A.J., Uribe, Gooch and Dye (and Thome) and they have sucked ass now for at least a month, two months and arguably since last July.

What exactly is Ozzie supposed to do? I've seen him try and be tough, be soft, be funny... but these men are paid millions to HIT THE DAMN BALL and they cannot even do that. How is that his fault? Or the bullpen situation? Who is he supposed to go to after seven innings? Jenks?

Sorry, but right now I put almost all the blame where it belongs: on the core players. They look fat, slow and uninterested. I'd rather watch the entire team be replaced with AAA who at least TRY then watch the fading glory of '05 get trampled by their lifelessness.

I think we can all agree that we'd be more forgiving if it at least seemed like we were taking tough losses but fighting them out, but we are lambs. We lay down and die.

There's only so much a manager can do.

The only thing that irks me right now is Fields. Play the damn kid already. We have nothing to lose at this point. To be jerking him around back and forth like that... we'll never KNOW if he's ready because there's no consistency.

Although if Ozzie's been right-on about our young guys not being ready, then this all comes down to one person: KW.

If KW can't supply a bullpen and can't supply callups to get the job done regardless of the manager, then get rid of him, dammit.

Oh and another thing: I can just PICTURE if we cut Ozzie as the fall guy, him going somewhere else and turning into, as somebody mentioned above, the next Tony LaRussa. I can just SEE it.

I say this respectfully for the man, but Ozzie cares too much about winning to handle a rebuilding situation. He takes the losses so hard now, and it likely won't get too much better over the next few years. I'll gladly accept him as our manager if he can prove that he's willing to deal with the struggles of a young player so that they can prove they belong in the majors. Rebuilding with this organization won't be easy due to the horrendous development of our prospects.

re: bold -- me neither. She isn't, obviously.

Ozzie can deal wth rebuilding, I'm sure. It's different when you're rebuilding and know it than when you're defending a world title and your starting CFer has a crap swing and crap approach and you have no real alternatives except for Mackowiak which sucks, too, but you've got to get a bat somewhere.

Rebuilding this team would suck for any Manager, what with our crap system and coaches.

Me either...

I agree with fathom, LVSoxFan, and GP on this one... this isn't Ozzie's fault, but he has to realize that these guys aren't "winners" anymore... the vets are stinking up the place, and then laughing it off... enough already. It's time to cut your losses and move on, but the minor system is in shambles, and Ozzie knows it. That's why he's impatient: he knows the cupboard's pretty much bare.

How can you not be a fan of a guy named Razor Shines?

Because he's an arrogant horses' ass? ;)

Oh, maybe I'm wrong.

Why does everybody keep insisting that we didn't play small ball in 2005?

//boggles

Yeah we had home run power and won a lot of games that way, especially in the playoffs. But in the regular season? Come on...

Because Ozzie said so himself.

How many times have we gone over this with you? Do you own the Sox World Series DVD?

That team was a homerun hitting team but we certainly played a bit of small ball. We scored a crap load of first inning runs by Pods getting on base, stealing, Iguchi getting him over and then someone knocking him in.

I haven't had a chance to watch any games recently, but when I read what he has to say - I feel like he's given up on the team. If that's the case, maybe the team should give up on him.

If Ozzie's given up on the team, he would have stepped down as manager already. He's got too much pride to steal JR's money by packing it in himself.
