It is not the question he asked - he made a statement about a team laying down. No matter how fans perceive it I am sure they are not laying down and that is a f***ed up thing to say. It was unprofessional and an instigating remark to make. He knew what he was doing when he said it. He is out for himself and only himself. He wants to see his name in the paper and his sound bites played around the nation. That is all he cares about. He is a freakin' jerk off and he deserved to be called that. How would you react if someone said that to you and your performance even though you were trying your best. How do you know ther is no fight or no heart - maybe this is the best this team is. Maybe that is all they have and all they can do. What you perceive by watching it on TV and from the stands is most likely not the case.

How much better do you think this group of players can play? I think this is it. They can't play any better. This is the best they can do. We need better players.

Listen, I'm just stating my opinion, and the opinions of some other Sox fans that I know. To me and them the team looks like it has no heart or fight in them. That's what I believe. Whether you choose to believe that is up to you. As for how much better I think this team is, there is no denying this is one of the most talented teams in the AL. They just aren't playing like it. I'm sure KW and Ozzie didn't think this team would perform like this. They are underachieving big time. They should be alot better than they are now, because right now they are flat out embarrassing!!

One of the most talented teams? What is in the bullpen? SS Uribe, LF - nothing! CF - nothing! 2B - Iguchi. RF - OLD LOOKING DYE! 3B - rookie. Where do you see talent? How is this even close to the most talented team in the AL? It's not! I'm sure they weren't thinking the team would perform like this or that they would have the injuries that occurred - but guess what - they are and they did. This team is not what you thought they were. This is the best that they are - they are not better. I am sure evey player is trying their hardest to be better - unfortunately as a team they are not - this is it. You and the other Sox fans that think they aren't should look at it realistically and understand that.

Ozzie hinted the players were laying down.

Where? When?

Where? When?

So before the season you knew they were gonna be this bad?? You knew Dye was gonna look this bad after last year? Iguchi? Uribe? I see talent in the starting pitching. I see talent in Konerko, Thome, Dye, AJ, Iguchi. For you to ask where I see talent is ridiculous. There is talent all over this team, they just are playing like s***, and I truthfully believe they aren't playing hard. It's like they don't give a s***. Just going through the motions. It's been this way since last July, no heart and no intensity whatsoever. But to believe they were gonna be this bad before the season. I don't think anyone but Baseball Prospectus predicted this.

I forgot about the bullpen. Our genius GM put that bullpen together himself. That was his baby. Did anyone know MacDougal was gonna implode? No. He has talent though. After the first month AArdsma was lights out, everyone was singing his praises, so he has to have some talent. Sisco sucks case closed there. Jenks, he is a stud. Logan as shown he can be valuable. Thornton has his moment, but he has talent. These guys have talent, it's just they aren't executing at all.

Where did I say I knew? I said they obvisouly didn't know. However before the season the Sox had a LF and a CF, a RF coming off a MVP type season, a gold glove caliber 3B coming off of his breakout season, a relibale consistent 1B, and a pretty good 2B. I never liked Uribe, so yes I thought he already sucked major ass. Now we have the team that I showed you in my previous post. The team changed - it happens. Be realistic - this is as good as they are. YOu can't get by on only starting pitching Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, and AJ. Iguchi sucks ass as well - so don't even count on him. This is what he is. They are not close to the most talented team in the AL - NOT EVE CLOSE! I would never question anyone's heart or desire and I don't think you would want yours questioned either.

Our genius GM had a good plan - the plan didn't work - but it looked good for the first month didn't it? Everyone was saying what a lights out bullpen they had. Now everyone is saying KW sucks for putting this bullpen together. None of them can throw consistent strikes. They have talent indeed. I am not saying they don't, but I wouldn't question that they are not trying, that they don't care, that they are just going through the motions, or that they don't have the desire. That is a f***ed up thing to say as I am sure you would never want that said about you.

I have no problem with North and this interview. He asked the question about what the plan is for the next couple series, and if the plan was to lay down. I have no problem with that question at all. I would have asked the exact same question in that situation. And I know alot of SOX fans feel the same. This team has layed down. There is no fight in them at all, no heart, nothing. I watch alot of baseball and in my eyes they are the worst team in baseball. They look like they are just going through the motions and collecting a paycheck. And I love the part where North says, "sorry for ruining your off day, but you guys have been ruining everyday for the fans" I love that. Call him and the whole team out, they deserve it for the way they attempt to play baseball.

OK, coaches dislike stupid questions. And, in sports, by far the stupidest question a member of the media can ask is, are you not going to try? "So what's your strategy...you just looking to lose again?" How dumb does that sound? If you're Don Cooper, how else do you answer that? I'm surprised the term he used was "jerkoff" and not "f***tard."

Doesn't it kind of suck that the bullpen actually had a good April? Like, when Shingo sucked in 2005, he sucked right out of the gate, so we were able to make the switch to Hermanson before not having a closer could hurt us. But since the bullpen had a good April, then took a nosedive in May, it was originally chalked up to a bad stretch. Now we know it's not just a bad stretch -- and the bullpen has done a month's worth of damage.

Well to me the team looks like it doesn't care and is just going through the motions. Everyone has their own opinion. I respect yours, and expect you to respect mine.

I respect your opinion, but look at it realisitically. LF - started with Pods - now a rookie or a bench players as everyday. CF - started with Erstad - now a rookie or a bench player as everyday. 3B - started with Crede - now a rookie or bench player as everyday 3B. RF - Jermaine Dye went from MVP canidate to looking very old. SS - Uribe sucked last year and he sucks this year at least in 2005 he played outstanding defense. 2B - Iguchi is terrible defensively and can only hit in the 2 hole. Konerko -bad start seems to be coming around. Thome - solid. C - AJ is what he is. SP outstanding. Bullpen - Jenks and pray. Where again do you see the best talent in the AL? Realistically, where? If everyone remained healthy possibly, but really it's not. I would also like you to tell me who you think is laying down. I doubt the rookies and bench players are. I really don't think a ML player has it in the to just lay down - besides Gary Sheffield anyway. Now if you tell me there are certain players on this team that are just playing for themselves and not for the team then I would buy that and I believe that a lot more than if you said they were laying down.

Laying down ??? Good question but is that how you have to state it.. I guarantee Larry Rothchild wouldn't get a question directed in such a manner. I grew up listening to whitesox announcer Elston promote our sox and the station that brodcast them. North isn't the only one that degrades the sox and their players to get what, a reaction, is that important.. The sox are played on 670 what can the management at the Score possibly gain by degrading our team.. A little false bravado.. I'm sure there is a thousand questions that North could ask that could be informative like delving into mechanic issues with the staff.. But because he's not a very good interviewer he agitates them. Listen the cubs play on 720 when I listen to the score where my team is heard I expect that the players, coaches and players are at least treated with some type of respect. I don't know how he remains employed at whitesox flagship station 670 the score. Bring on people at the score that have opinions but still promote our Whitesox. We all know the sox are playing badly but there is no need for inflammatory accusations.....

I understand your point of view. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I do respect it. But put yourself in Coop's shoes. I mean, I don't think the coaches have their meetings and say, "You know what? Why don't we just pack it in?" So when North asks if that's what they've decided to do, he oughta take that BS out of his bio that says people would come to his hot dog stand for his insight into Chicago sports. He oughta take it out, anyway.

Great points. I really don't know how this clown has a job let alone how he has become this media icon in Chicago. It is quite embarrassing really. NY heard him for two days and couldn't stand him. They could tell right away that he sucked ass. We have him for life it seems. How is that possible?

Mike North sucks no matter where I hear him. I have a great baseball franchise in town that are unfortunatley affiliates of the Twins. I grew up on Rochester Red Wings Baseball, and some nice prospects came though but I love the fact I can no longer cheer for the hometeam. So much more interesting.

But we toook advantage of the ballclub. The Rochester Red Wings are one of the oldest and most original franchises in all of ROchester. :hawk:

In response to that last post there should be prospect talk, but embarssingly it is missing

Did WSCR not give money to Soxtalk when it came calling? Jeez, whenever Mike North is involved, this board always takes the other side. Like with the Ozzie situation as well.

I love the Sox, but every day its another situation where the players, staff, management act like immature jerks.

Grow up and play baseball better. All these ills will be relieved.

I can't stand Mike North. But he didn't deserve to be defended here.

I'd probly answer that question the same way. North's garbage.

he may be but i'm glad someone was able to tell Coop how much he and the team suck. sure they know it, but the more they hear it, the more it will sink in.
