dagotony06
We have 19 games left until the All Star break. 2 more with the Marlins 3 at home against the cubs 4 at Tampa Bay 3 at KC 4 at home with Baltimore 3 at home with the Twins Let's say we go 14-5, that would put us at 43-42 at the Break. It seems like the last few games the offense is starting to heat up, and with Pods and Erstad coming back hopefully soon, I think we have a chance to try to get back in this thing. I know I may sound crazy, but I really think they can go on a bit of a run before the break. So who's with me?? Anybody out there think we have a chance?? Let's get some positive energy going and turn this season around!!!

dagotony06
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) 12 of the next 19 games the Sox play are against opponents with a superior record. I know that, but like I said, with the offense looking like it might be coming around I'm thinking we might get on a hot streak. We haven't had one all year yet, we are over due. Either way, I think KW is gonna wait for this stretch of games before he makes any decision about trading guys away. I'm just hoping we can get hot and make a run. At least make it a little more interesting.

Chisoxfn
The Sox are going to probably stand pat until the break, so we'll get to see what happens. If they find themselves at .500 they'll consider buying and if they are still floundering we will quickly see the fire sale happen.
FlaSoxxJim
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor??!?
Flash Tizzle
They're not winning anything this season. It's time to realize that. We're not any better than Minnesota, Cleveland, or Detroit. How can anyone suggest otherwise? Even if the White Sox were to enter the All-Star break with a .500 record overall, what does it say that a majority of the teams defeated were subpar opponents? Such a scenario would only give people (perhaps Williams) false hope. It would also set back our minor league development even further. You have to rationalize our season in these simple terms -- if we're going for it, we damn well better have sound reason to believe this team has turned itself around and can reach the playoffs. 14-5 alone doesn't do it for me. I'm talking about 17-2, with pitching performing well every...damn...day.. and offense averaging 5+ every.....game. The spark will not be lit. This team is bad. And, please, I hope we're not going to resort to the "there are sooooo many divisional games left" arguments when suggesting why this team has a chance. They're done. Gregory Pratt
I'm not excited by today. We needed, what, four unearned runs? We've had games like this before. It's corpseball. Good game once a week. Wish we'd save them for Mark Buehrle's starts. Hey, listen. If we roll, I'd be thrilled, but I'm not going to predict a turnaround from today at all. At all. Rowand44
This team is bad. Not going anywhere. Wait and hope for a fire sale.
greg775
I like the optimism and can only hope, but the team does appear to stink. The only hope for the kind of run you suggest is to hit like tonight. Thirteen hits a game every game and I would believe we have a chance. But that isn't going to happen. With our s***ty bullpen it is going to take so much offense game after game to put a streak together. The Sox have not shown that. Like one of you said corpseball gives way to one decent game per week.

If they find themselves at .500 they'll consider buying and if they are still floundering we will quickly see the fire sale happen. Terrible. I'll also say, as I have in another post, that Buehrle should be wearing another uniform by June 24th if Williams has any sense of a players value. It'll never be higher. I don't care about waiting for other teams to emerge, because I'm more concerned about Buehrle losing value over several weeks than I am risking the addition of ballclubs in July who may unexpectedly require pitching. It just seems like a waste of everyones time to stand pat until the All-star breaking waiting for a collection of scrubs to somehow, someway provide a spark. What did I say before? You need that WOW fact and Dye provided that. 2 great defensive plays brought a lot of life to the team. It brought a lot of energy. That is what they need to wake them up and to show energy. Great base running, great defensive plays, a lot of hustle, beating out a play at first, stretching a single to a double or a double to a triple, running the catcher over at the plate - any of those things and you will see more energy. This is where you seem to miss the speed of Ozuna and Pods.

If they get on a roll and get healthy and possibly add a couple of pieces instead of removing - it could happen. Once on a roll anything can happen - difficult to stop a locomotive once it gets rolling. Then again, we may only be driving a VW bus. It is all so confusing right now. dagotony06
I'm just hoping that they get on some kind of run and make this thing interesting. I believe if the offense keeps scoring like it has the last few games, this team can turn it around in a hurry. For some reason I just think this team is gonna go on a big run, and get right back in this race. Maybe I am wrong, but even if they don't by the all star break, maybe they will play well enough to increase the value of some of the players they are looking to trade. Maybe Dye, Buerhle and Iguchi and whoever else can up their trade value in these 19 games before the break.

If the Sox go on any kind of run, it won't matter what any of the pending free agent's trade value is at come the deadline because KW will be buying rather than selling which will only hurt this team for the immediate future (say 2008.) If you look at the Sox' bullpen, outfield and left side of the infield and think they can catch 2 outstanding ballclubs in Cleveland and Detroit then you're completely delusional. At this point how many players on the Sox' 25 man roster are superior to their counterparts on those of the Tigers and Indians?

At this point how many players on the Sox' 25 man roster are superior to their counterparts on those of the Tigers and Indians? Why? If they continue to win they may be able to afford to buy players. If they don't they will have to go your prospect route. If they see they can't catch those 2 teams then I am sure they will get what they can for their pending FA's. Have a little faith in your favorite team. I am sure they will make the correct choices. Their job is to win. They want to win as much as we want them to win. I highly doubt they would want to do anything to hurt this organization or set it back. It is not like we are trusting Wanstedt and McCaskey here. We are trusting an organization that brought us the World Series championship 2 years ago. Have a little faith. You could have asked the same question about the 2005 team and go player by player against a few other teams and no one would have picked the White Sox. Boston, Anaheim, NY... player vs. player it didn't match up good for the White Sox. You really can't compare teams that way in such a huge team sport like baseball.
