CWSOX45
I don't know his contract situ, but I'll wager he will be asking for 7-8 Mill a pop. As a sub-700 career OPS hitter coming into this season, this dude has no power/RBI-driveability; he gets caught stealing too much to be called a greta BR'er and his defense is mediocre...The add the switch to the new league and the1st year struggles that are sure to follow... I'd rather keep Harris/Jimenez who are 5 years younger and have better hitting potential while making league minimum than to pay so much for Castillo. I want Ichiro for that money and I want him NOW! If this team is to contend and make the post-season Jimenez and Harris will not cut it, we're going to need Castillo. CWSOX45

CWSOX45
Leadoff hitter...our answer is Luis Castillo and we all know that. Right on Steve. CWSOX45
Soxplosion
Id still go with Lawrence. This year hes 4-9 (on a terrible team) with a 4.84 ERA (hes somewhat like Buehrle this year). Last year he was 12-12 with a 3.69 ERA. This could be an easy steal...
Molto
Castillo is making $4,850,000 this season, which is his free agent year. if we get him, we'll have to pay him $6-7 mil for 3-4 years.
SuperSteve
He has to be the ace on the Pads too. Here, he would not have the same expectations. I think he could relax here and be a nice number 3.

He's probably ask for Jeremy Reed or Cotts or something like that. CWSOX45

CWSOX45 But he is pretty mediocre even in his CONTRACT year after spending 7 years in the league! Jimenez will be ok, not what he was in April, but far from what he is in June, Greg Walker will make sure of that, lol...compared what we gain in Suzuki/Cameron in CF versus what we have now...not even close. CWSOX45
Who do you think we could get for pennies then? No idea, maybe someone from Colorodo? That GM gave us Pacheco for Sandy Alomar, even though Colorodo wasn't even close to contending. That move had no logic to it what-so-ever. Soxplosion
Jiminez blotchy D wont cut it in the playoffs and Harris is too young and not enough of a hitter. If ya ask me, Harris will never be a better hitter than Castillo. Castillo hits for high average and I just dont see Willie doing that. Mathew
Trade Loaiza, for who? I doubt it, I personally like Benson, but I wouldn't expect him to be much of an impact after his injury I'm afraid.

I think you grossely overestimate Castillo's skills, his salary situation and the fact that he is yet t see 1 AL pitch...at the same time discounting Jimenez's god-given (that's what so upsetting to see him dragg his lazy ass like that) hitting talent and deceptive athleticism...he is cheap too. SuperSteve
I wouldn't chance that straight-up. We could try a huge move and bring Giles over with Benson. A deal like Loaiza, Lee, Jimenez for Benson and Giles or something like that. Help me out I can't think of any other deal for Giles.

If its Lawrence, a proven MLBer, for Cotts, a minor leaguer with no control, Ill take Lawrence. Reed could be good but hes still not a proven MLBer like Lawrence is... BrandoFan
Ichiro, are you kidding. He is a Mariner for life. We all know that. I can dream, can't I? Now Mike Cameron is another story altogether...his numbers would go up at the Cell versus Safeco and his money even from the 6th spot...he can run and play D, with the best of them and is relatively cheap. The Mariners are the best team in baseball right now and probably have no interest in trading Cameron back to the Sox. CWSOX45

SuperSteve
You can dream don't worry. But, I agree about Cotts. Keep him. I've seen Sox mess up trading wrong young talent too early (Fogg and Biddle especially). We should have gotten Jose Cruz Jr., who can play all 3 OF positions, as a FA at beginning of the season. CWSOX45 Besides Ichiro, the Mariners have aging Roid Boonem, Olerud and Edgar who can break down at any time....their bullpen is shaky and with Moyer being 41 and their best pitching prosect basicvally cooked, they have NOONE to step in other than Piniero and maybe Garcia....The are the biggest over-achievers in baseball, it makes me sick. They will need players past this season...tho not likely, a fair deal for Mike is possible.
Rex Hudler
No, we still keep Borchard. That lineup would be the result of Nixon for Loaiza and Rios, not Borchard. Thats why at first I was aiming at French. Because French is Luis Castillo in CF. Speed and BA, he may not be ready yet but hes a good leadoff prospect... Why would we trade approx $1 million in players to take on $4 million in salary, especially when the $1 million includes your best starter to date and a guy who will continue to give you innings? On your first idea, Boston would never trade for Borchard because he doesn't walk enough. Epstein is of the Billy Beane mode in that regard. Plus, it is still too early to give up on Joe. I don't see Loaiza bringing in much Major League ready talent and since he is so cheap ( yes, that should make him worth more) why not keep him and plan on having a solid 1-2-3 for the playoffs?? Now Rios you could trade for a bag of balls if you can find a taker.
Rex Hudler
Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'd perfer Ponson too. But, it seems the O's are asking way too much for Sidney. Everyone is saying how Loaiza's season may be a fluke. I remember seeing Ponson struggle for so long. Ponson would be a great number 3 starter. So why is Loaiza's season a fluke, but Ponson the real deal?? Could El Sidney also be having his career year?

SuperSteve
The funniest thing about Armando Rios is he is complaining about playing time. Kenny Williams did a great job bringing new guys in this year, Loaiza and Daubach. But Rios is a joke.
