Gregory Pratt
Buehrle was being real coy and sheepish in his post-game interview, though.

toasty
QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) did anyone listen to the pre-game on the score? farmer stated that Buehrle mentioned to him prior to the game that he really wanted 15/y, however he didnt state how many years so 4/60 instead of 4/50 probably keeps mark on the SS durring the game, farmer said mark told him he wanted 13.... Steff
QUOTE(toasty @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 04:04 AM) durring the game, farmer said mark told him he wanted 13.... 2 pages ago it was $14M... So which is it $13, $14, or $15M? And apparently you guys need to stop listening to loud music.
That funky motion
QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Kalapse, A lot of people here, including myself take what you say about the White Sox seriously. You really seem to know what is going on, you might not have a sorce, but you have a great baseball mind. Having said that, are you for the Sox resigning Mark at the proposed deal, or would you rather re-stock the farm by trading him? That was one of the funniest interviews I have seen by him in a long time. I dont know if he was using the company line or what, but when Mark said that he wants to stay here over St. Louis, that made me smile a little while. I really hope when I go Monday he has a new deal, either way, he will be getting a standing O from me, and hopefully otheres as well. I didnt see the interview, but if he said this its very intresting. Why would he say this, if something was not being hammered out. It would seem like he was burning a bridge by saying this. DBAHO
I saw this little piece here; WSCR-AM (670) reported that Buehrle is close to signing a four-year deal worth $50 million, with an option for a fifth year. Buehrle would likely command more than a $12.5 million per-year contract on the market, but he has also repeatedly said he'd give the Sox a hometown discount. If you can sign Mark Buehrle to that type of deal, the Sox have GOT to jump on that.
southsider2k5
QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) the s***ball classic is indigenous to Soxtalk..... much like the prarie dog to this region.... btw prairie dog is Mark Buehrle's 2nd favorite dog like animal. (i think i read it somewhere) I luv that duck. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) Thank you T-Bones. Don't forget to thank Porkchop QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:20 PM) So apparently Buehrle told Farmer that he's looking for $14M a year. Seems odd that he'd just mention a fact like that during the broadcast as if it's nothing. Especially for someone who toes the company line so well. I think Farmio just tipped something out of the negotiations. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Perhaps Jerry can speak with the board and get them to relax that rule. Sometimes it is forgotten that there are other people's investments to take into consideration on that end. Though, keeping that in mind, the "company" has for the past 7 years put the profits back into the team. Hopefully they put it in the right place and see something in the future to build on. Wouldn't that be some s*** if Mark says no to $12.5M but signs elsewhere for $14M a year... <_> If Mark isn't in Chicago, he is going to sign for WAY more than that. The only way he signs for that little, is if he is a White Sox in 2008. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) Please...Jordan was being paid nearly $30 million dollars by Reinsdorf in his final years. Once MJ left, Phil did not feel like rebuilding. For all the crap people give Reinsdorf, he is the best owner in this town by far and has been for the past 20 years. More like the best owner this town has ever seen. Who else has brought seven world titles to Chicago?

fathom
Farmer said that Buehrle wants 14 million a year.....I'm 100 pct sure that's the number he stated. Friday deadline, here we come. If I didn't know better, I might think that this is a ploy by the Sox to make it look like they tried their best to re-sign him, but that they just couldn't agree on the numbers. If he doesn't re-sign, we'll probably see him traded before he can start next week at the Cell. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...-ssep28.article Edited June 28, 2007 by fathom

Friday deadline, here we come. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...-ssep28.article Without any first hand knowledge(or some would say without much knowledge at all) Mark appears to really have a strong desire to stay here. If he is asking around 14-15 and has compromised to 4 years then the Sox really need to get it done. He's not asking for the house. He's not asking for 5-7 years. He has shown he's willing to compromise. I don't really know the numbers or years, but if they are what's being reported then this deal should be done by Friday. Especially when you consider taxes are going to get out of control when the Socialist Hillary is elected... If he elects to give the Sox a break he'll sign for 4yrs/$60million with an option for a 5th year. And if I'm the Sox I jump all over that deal. I still don't buy the fact we cannot increase our payroll either moving forward. The team just needs to get more creative about bringing in revenues to keep the guys we have that are worthy of keeping- like MB.

While I agree that it certainly doesn't look pretty at the moment, I'm going to be positive here for a second and say that if Mark re-signs then this team can be competitive next year. We'll have a nice starting rotation and the bullpen can be fixed pretty cheap if done right. Now fixing this miserable lineup will be quite the task but there are ways to at least improve it. I know that's a lot of ifs but I feel like being positive today. Edited June 28, 2007 by Rowand44

Harry Chappas
Anyone find it odd that it appears that Ozzie Guillen and Mark's family (dad/wife?) are trying to iron out this deal? So much for Guillen being on the hot seat by the way he seems to be confronting KW head on with this. Let me throw this conspiracy theory out there, do you think this is Guillen and Reinsdorf trumping KW or nudging him toward signing Buerhle? Could Vazquez be the KW guy that Guillen has tired of who now will be moved to rebuild? Hey, I like soap operas. I gotta tell ya I like that Gonzalez kid at least today I do. How bad of an infielder is he that Cintron and Uribe are getting at-bats. Juan Uribe should be arrested not for shooting flares at the Italian Navy but for armed robbery of the White Sox, Mackowiak and Cintron could be as well. Those 8th inning at-bats by Uribe and Mackowiak made my eyes hurt. Don Baylor is 58 today.

The Ginger Kid
this deadline is bulls***. It's June 28th, not July 28th. whatever - the smart thing to do would be to sign Mark and get rid of Vaz or Count. Which means we'll keep those two and trade Mark for some bullpen arm who's just a "tick" below Jenks.

He is signed reasonably and is has the best "stuff" of any Sox pitcher. Garland is the guy that will be dealt IMO, he is young, has value and will cost a lot to resign. I think we could see a rotation of Buerhle, Vazquez, Danks, Floyd, Haeger/Masset/Broadway in August.
hitlesswonder
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:22 AM) If I didn't know better, I might think that this is a ploy by the Sox to make it look like they tried their best to re-sign him, but that they just couldn't agree on the numbers. The Sox and KW have never been real media-savvy. This could easily be a ham-handed attempt to make Buehrle look like "the bad guy". I wouldn't be surprised if a trade is already in place and this is just a farce to soften the blow to Sox fans and placate the media. In fact, I go ahead and say that I think Buehrle made his last start for the Sox last night. Otherwise, why publicly announce a deadline? It makes no sense other than for PR.
