I said ... oh about 60 pages ago in this thread, this situation needs to be like the Konerko deal, where Mr. Reinsdorf tells the B-team ( Williams, Hahn, etc), "Thanks guys, but I will take it over from here before you further embarass the organization."

Hmm, lets see. First, only draft "safe" draft picks to safe contracts, don't sign any impact FA's because it will cost JR too much, don't deal with Boras clients, don't give any full NTC's, and don't sign any current players to below market deals - even when they concede demands. This team seems like it is one Grinder away from another World Series (->little league).

When did I say we'd become the Pirates? I'm just saying you can't win a World Series by ignoring the biggest agent in baseball and not giving any no trade clauses. That isn't to say we'll suck, but if we go that route we have to win by drafting well and making a lot of good trades, and although we've done part 2 of that under KW, we have not done part 1. Plus, we're in a pretty good division, so I'm not counting on success unless policies change, and that goes for the GM and Owner. Those 2 could win, but policies must change and 2 men that stubborn don't strike me as types that will adjust to a changing market.

I'm serious. The Marlins have one of the best scouting departments in the game, and even though they're owned by a cheap bastard too, they're occasionally brilliant when that young talent matures.

 

Our problem is that we don't have the balls to be a championship franchise, and we don't have the balls to start over from scratch. What we have is an owner who forces (either explicitly or implicitly) his GM to rely on mediocre veteran talent with the hope that we'll get lucky.

 

Sack up, start paying people, or at least have the balls to rebuild like men.

If it's true the Sox declined that extra year option if he was traded, then they obviously don't want him on the team for the next four years. This is total f***ing bulls*** now, and this organization will deserve all the s*** they receive in the next week. I can't wait for KW to trade for more underachieving 24 year old pitchers who they think they can fix by what they see on the video.

If what I just read on ESPN.com is true, and they don't resign him somehow, then I'm going to have a real hard time paying money to see, listen, or watch this team as long as Kenny Williams has anything to do with the organization. In short, this is bulls***, and it's hard to root for a team whose management treats players like Mark Buehrle this way. And for anyone that says "see ya" or "dont let the door hit you on the way out" or something similar...that's fine, just keep your head in the sand and watch Kenny Williams, and the rest of the front office run this team back into the ground.

thats an easy thing to agree with, the Marlins are gluttons of talent. If they somehow drew an owner with the willingness to spend on a stadium(with a retractable roof) and on players, they would easily be able to maintain a highly competitive club from this point forward.

After all this has happened, not only is Mark not going to stay, but the Sox have substantially lowered his value due to the talks.

With everything that has gone on this year, I don't think Kenny Williams deserves to keep his job. Not only does he have one of the worst 100 million dollar teams in history, but the future of this organization looks about as bad as ever. It's hard to see how we won't be competing for anything higher than 3rd phace over the next 5 years.

It also appears we have a 100 million dollar payroll this year, minus a few million and we are close to last place. Losing Buerhle does not mean we will fall to last place and does not mean we will be in first. Quite frankly if this team is to get better we NEED to trade players now and get good young players in return. Buerhle brings us value and because our inor league system sucks which I have been saying for a long time and many many people disagreed with me every damn day, we are now in a position to trade one of our favorite players. Its ok, because if we do sign him we still will not have the team to win next year. Face the facts, with or without beurhle we will not win next year. So Kenny needs to make a big decision and that is do the whitesox start selling off piece meal for the next two years beginning now and acquiring players for the next 5 years. That is what is happening right now.

 

Now if we keep beurhle the very next guy that could bring us great value is garland. He then goes on the block and all you 18 year olds who haven't made a dime in your life will be crowing about what a great value he is at 15 million. The job of an exec is to look at many things at one time, and completely evaluate and predict. If you keep beurhle garland leaves. I am telling you, he goes, because nothing else on this team brings back that kind of value.

The problem is that you never trade quality starting pitching, because you will never get the value back in a trade. Look at the best teams in the league every year, there is one thing in common, top notch starting pitching. That is not a coincidence.

Fathom this is the same owner and GM that brought you the world series. The same principals applied then as they do now. The very best way to speak to the owner is not to go to the park. They are counting on you to go. Don't go and don't watch, otherwise the whitesox are run the exact same way as they were two years ago. In fact I am sure KW and JR are kicking themselves at signing konerko. Right now he is worthless. They won't make that mistake again.

And by reading the recent article, it's obvious it wasn't about the NTC. Now, we're putting ourselves in a whole when it comes other negotiations, as it would look awful if they offered another FA a NTC after we wouldn't give it to Buehrle. It's pretty sad when a big market team can't sign a pitcher to a massive discount.

I also have to give credit where credit is due, and agent Jeff Berry has been awesome with the way he has handled the media. Mark is going to come out of this looking great, with Berry saying all the right things.
