whitesoxfan101
Charlotte is at Pawtucket at 5:05. The rehabbing and pitching very well Jon Lester goes for the Saux, and TBD for the Knights. And for those of you who thought the same thing I did when they saw that, no Gavin's rotation spot doesn't come up until tomorrow when he'd be on regular 4 day rest. Heath is supposed to go today, and he was actually very good his last start, so hmmm..... Birmingham is at Montgomery at 7:05. GREAT pitching matchup as Jack Egbert (7-6, 3.00) takes on Chris Mason (10-3, 2.59). Winston-Salem hosts Kinston at 6. W-S are the bastards that don't tell you on their site who is pitching, but Omogrosso made his first start on the 25th and they have had a game everyday since so I'd assume he will be taking the bump. Kanny hosts Greensboro at 6:05. Matt Long pitches for the good guys against Cristhian Martinez. Great Falls hosts Billings at 8. Anthony Carter pitches for the Sox against Joshua Ravin Bristol plays at Kingsport at 6. The starters are TBD on both sides, as last nights game between the 2 teams was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the 2nd. So both sides will finish that game at 6 and then play a 7 inning game immediately after that. BigEdWalsh
A great comeback win for Great Falls tonight (12-10, they were down 10-3). Anthony Carter roughed up pretty good, but a Save for "the other" Josh Fields.
CWSGuy406
Egbert had another great start, going seven strong giving up just one run while striking out eight. Po-Yu Lin started for Bristol but only pitched the first two innings (scoreless) -- hopefully not an injury... Bristol has a bunch of guys starting off their minor league careers with a bang -- Logan Johnson, Jose Martinez (from Venezuela!), Sergio Morales and Jesus Avila are all smoking the ball, albeit in very very small sample sizes. I assume this Jose Martinez wasn't drafted -- if that's true, anybody know when we signed him?
Gene Honda Civic
Egbert is currently second in the White Sox organization with 103 innings pitched. I'm not big on using minor league ERA to predict future MLB performance, but you've got to like the fact that Eggy's ERAs have read like this: 3.14, 2.67, 2.88 in his three full-seasons of minor league ball. BearSox
Eggy and Gio belong in Charlotte ASAP! With Floyd likely to get called up when Buehrle is traded which will likely happen any day now, and Nunez being pretty much a filler, there should be no problem with getting them in the AA rotation. And then you could promote DLS and McCulloch to Birmingham. And after 1 more hopefully good start, Poreda should be promoted to Kanny to replace DLS. SoxAce
Valido is so worthless in our organization now.

Martinez was signed in 2005 I believe, as he played for our former VSL team last year. Not showing a lot of plat discipline this year, but I wouldn't be too worried considering he put up a healthy amount of walks last year. He's 18-years-old and 6'5 170, so he definitely has A LOT of room to grow. I wouldn't be surprised if he's pushed to Great Falls or even Kannapolis for a month before the year is over. BearSox
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:02 AM) I don't see DLS landing in BHam. well, he should. IMO, him spending a half a season in W-S would be a waste of pitches.

Yeah, the ERAs are good, but it's the dominant groundball ratio that gets me excited. That and a decent K/IP and K/BB. He's certainly not a B Mac in terms of flashy numbers, but that ground ball rate may indicate he's a much better pitcher for the Cell than just about anyone save Buehrle and Garland on the staff. His G/F ratio isn't that dominant. Against lefties over the last three years, it's about 1, under 1 a couple years. Much better against righties during that same time period, around 1.7. So overall he's around 1.3-1.4, which is Garland territory, but that's still like 1/3 the rate of guys like Webb and Lowe.
Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 01:16 PM) You do not promote DLS to Birmingham. You promote him to Winston Salem. Absolutely no reason to just throw the guy over high A ball. I agree, no need to rush him. Especially with Gonzalez, Egbert, Floyd, Broadway ahead of him. At the earliest, he should be pitching in Chicago by 2009. And that's if everything goes well concerning his health and adjustments to the various levels.
