RockRaines
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) Well, unlike the rest of the Soxtalk crew, I'm not going to bash or make fun of a guy that's had a lot of bad luck in the injury department. It's unfortunate. I'm sure he won't be back next season. Bad luck is a broken leg because of a foul ball, or a hit by a pitch. Scott has strained every muscle than we use on a day to day basis. He is made of glass.

Cali
Every time I see Gonzalez' name in the line-up I want to punch a puppy in the face. He should be sent down for the fact that he can look both tall and oddly fat at the same time. I dont like that, it disturbs me. Sween-Dawg please.... quickman
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) Umm..he posted an 800+ OPS over the past month since being sent down. I think he needs his speed guy...I've said it all off-season Kenny really screwed the pooch both this year and last year when it came to not giving Ozzie what he needs (athletes to go along with his horses...ie pitchers). But Sweeney is an athlete and Owens is well a 5th outfielder. although I disagree with you on sweeney being the future I do think he is mountains above Owens. I think this is more ozzie than anyone else. I truly think this is Ozzies choice.

It's not like the guy is out there trying to get hurt. Neither is wood or Prior. I wouldnt bet a season on those two anchoring my starting rotation, and we shouldnt bet the season on Erstad or Pods being healthy and being the 1-2 punch in the lineup. People before the season where placing bets in the ST threads about how long Pods and Erstad would be healthy. How many groin surgeries, or other injuries before he is an often injured player. He is a speed guy, that has had 4 groin surgeries. Thanks for 05, they should trade him this offseason.

He is a speed guy, that has had 4 groin surgeries. Thanks for 05, they should trade him this offseason. There it is. We all saw how well it worked in 2005, and then in the second half last season he hit .241 and scored just 23 and we fell out of the race. But when guys have injuries like this, and were the key to your success (and a World Series) in the past, it's hard to say, "Thanks for 2005, good luck in your future endeavors." You have visions of the same success you had before when he was healthy. And I'm sure Oakland fans weren't terribly distraught to see Jermaine Dye go after missing 31 games in 2002, nearly 100 in 2003 and 25 in 2004. But he helped us to a World Series and had an MVP-caliber season a year ago.

I am not sure there is a Sox fan out there who would rather have Owens over Sweeney. So you want Sweeney to ride the bench? Because that is what would happen if he came up here. The way I see it now, Terrero is the starting CFer. For RF, Dye is back and if he's not there, that's Andy Gonzalez' spot. And in LF -- so long as Dye is healthy -- Ozzie's got Mackowiak and Gonzalez. I think that the Sox think they'd be hurting Sweeney's development if they brought him up right now. And the fact that he's still not ready for the bigs is another reason he's not up.
Cerbaho-WG
Ryan Sweeney's away splits: .248-2-13 .248/.322/.333 in 105 ABs Yeah, impressive numbers. Good to see we're developing Sean Burroughs II.

I think he is very close to being ready, and he is of course better than Owens. But I suppose its not the end of the world if he finishes the season in Charlotte and gets more opportunities. Plus I have to admit, I am starting to kind of like Gonzalez.

Yep, Ozzie told KW he wants him with the big league team over Sweeney due to his lead off experience. Not to start WWIII, but maybe this will show people that yes, Ozzie does have some say over who's on the big league club.
Vance Law
For as bad as it's gone for the outfield- having to go to plan C and plan Q because of injuries, it's interesting to remind yourself that Terrero/Erstad is an upgrade from last year. GreatScott82
Okay enough is enough already KW.. time to move on to a new OF. And when i mean new i mean 'real' outfielders. I'm not talking about Terrero or Gonzales or Owens. I'm talking at least 2 OFers from this free agent list: Suzuki, Hunter, Rowand, Byrnes, and A. Jones. The other OF spot can be given to Sweeney.
