fathom
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 09:35 PM) To me its simple. If he is going to be traded. It should be for the creme of the crop top shelf guys. Like a Gomez/or Milledge and Pelfry or a Bucholz package from the Red Cubs or a Kemp package from the Dodgers, or a Saltallamacia package from the Braves. I dont want to see him moved, if its a B prospect and 2 Cs. Take the the picks and allow this to be his fairwell tour. If he is going to sign a deal, then move something else. Gomez is out for a few months. And please, why do people keep saying we should keep the picks? With the way this team drafts, that would be such a waste. Heads22
Garcia commanded a starting C, a top prospect and a middle prospect. We figured we'd resign him, but if I remember right, he was a FA at the end of the year. I know Buehrle says he won't extend with a team he's traded to, but I'd like a similar package for Mark. BearSox
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) Garland has more trade value than MB because he's signed through 2008 instead of 2007? whitesoxfan101
Punto is making some great picks at 3rd. Of course, it's because he's playing the ball poorly and into some bad hops, but still he's picking it. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) Uhhh helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll yes. Garland is a righty, hasn't had nearly the career that Buehrle has, and he'll get us that much more because he's signed 1 extra year? Umm
southsideirish71
4 hits for the offense against Teen Wolf. Walker must laugh everytime he cashes a check. He comes home, Yes honey, another one. A big fat one this time. Oh what did I do at work today, well I had them hit in the cage, but come on, they got here with their swings. I then drank a beer and passed out. It was a great day. It was pretty well known Garcia was going to re-sign with us because of his relationship with Ozzie, and IIRC it was only a week or two after the trade that he signed the extension. That was kind of a unique situation though, as it wasn't a rent a player but it wasn't an immediate extension either.

Umm Buehrle would be a 3 month rental and said he won't sing with the team he's traded to. Garland would be around for 9 months of baseball and would be able to be signed to an extension with that team. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me if more GM's liked Garland better as a pitcher (aside from yesterday).

I'm one of the biggest Garland fans on this board, but the only GM's in baseball that like him better than Buehrle are ones who are soon to be and/or should be unemployed. The fact that Garland is signed through 2008 might get him around equal value on the market as Buehrle, but that's it (and that's even a stretch). If he winds up on the Red Cubs he will become the best left that has ever toed a rubber. Schilling will personally welcome him, and will talk about how they have 5 aces, and that they are a lock to win everygame in the playoffs. ESPN will then talk about how Mark always wanted to be a Red Cub since he was a little boy. ETC ETC ETC
