f***ing sweet... I don't know about you guys, but a core of Buehrle, Garland, Danks, and even Vazquez is very nice.

That's what they have now and they are in 4th place. The bullpen is going to need to be improved. I think this signing which totally shocks me will also put an end to anyone thinking KW was going into a total rebuilding mode.

White Sox and pitcher Mark Buehrle agree to terms on four-year extension

CHICAGO -- Left-handed pitcher Mark Buehrle and the Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a four-year, $56-million contract extension through the 2011 season, White Sox General Manager Ken Williams announced today. Under terms of the agreement, Buehrle will be paid $14 million for each of the next four seasons.

Buehrle, 28, is 103-70 with a 3.77 ERA (646 ER/1,543.2 IP) and 898 strikeouts over eight seasons with the White Sox (2000-present).

"There is no question what Mark Buehrle means to this organization, our clubhouse and our fans," said Williams. "He is one of the very best left-handers in the game today. We cannot be happier to reach this agreement with Mark, and now look forward to this team winning games the remainder of this season and in future years with Mark on the mound."

Originally a 38th-round draft pick in 1998, the three-time All-Star (2002, 2005-06) ranks 12th among Sox pitchers on the club's all-time list for wins and has appeared in 246 career games (221 starts) with 21 complete games and seven shutouts. He led the American League in innings twice (2004-05).

Buehrle became the first White Sox pitcher since 1991 to throw a no-hitter when he allowed just one baserunner as he blanked the Texas Rangers at U.S. Cellular Field on April 18. For the season, the left-hander is 6-4 with a 3.03 ERA (39 ER/115.2 IP), 22 walks and 70 strikeouts in 17 starts. He ranks sixth in the AL in ERA and ninth in IP.

He earned his 100th career victory on June 10 vs. Houston, becoming just the fifth pitcher in history to record each of his first 100 career wins in a White Sox uniform.

Buehrle is one of seven pitchers (eight times) in White Sox history to record 10 or more victories in at least six consecutive seasons (2001-06). The others include Joe Horlen (1963-69), Bill Pierce (1955-61), Ted Lyons (1924-30 and 1932-37), Eddie Cicotte (1913-20) and Ed Walsh (1906-12).

"Mark's consistency and accomplishments in a White Sox uniform speak for themselves," Williams said. "What we value most about Mark, the pitcher, is his constant commitment to the team. Every time he takes the mound, his only concern is that the White Sox win the game. You can't ask for anything more from a player."

Buehrle has thrown 1,492.2 IP since the start of the 2001 season, the second-highest total in the major leagues behind Livan Hernandez. With at least 200.0 IP in each of the past six seasons, Buehrle joins Hernandez, Freddy Garcia and Barry Zito as the only pitchers to reach those levels. He is the only pitcher in White Sox history to make 30 or more starts in six consecutive seasons.

Buehrle, who debuted with the Sox in July 2000 and went 2-0 with one save in the World Series run of 2005, signed a four-year contract with the White Sox in December 2003.

I doubt he'll be willing to sign a deal in the White Sox price Range. I can't see him taking a discount similar to the one Buehrle took and I can't see the Sox agreeing to a 5 year $70M+ deal like he'll be looking for.

How long are you going to be allowed to propagate this unsubstantiated nonsense?

Buehrle rocks. Congrats to Kenny Williams for signing this contract. To get this caliber of pitcher on the cheap...hell of a job. Buehrle is a pro's pro and will help the team throughout the life of this contract.

It's called an opinion. If you really think Garland will be willing to sign a deal that fits the Sox' budgetary constraints then kudos to you, you have a differing an opinion to mine. Congrats.

It seems like every great thing that has happened this season had to do with Buehrle. I was at the game yesterday and was afraid it would be his last start for us. Thank God that we get to enjoy watching him pitch for the next four years!!!

I've been waiting for the Buehrle deal to get done before finishing the 40 man version. I'll post the updated set tonight.

Fix Jermaine's salary as well. He got a raise to $7 million for his World Series MVP.

Glad the Sox made the right choice. This was really a no-brainer.

Just the perfect way to head into the ASB.

You can't now say the KW and JR won't pay pitchers good long - term deals. We've gotten Buehrle below market value, and it's a great deal for both sides. Everyone should be happy.

Well everyone except Jose Contreras, who I doubt will be with this team for much longer. You can't trade Vazquez the way he is pitching ATM, unless someone really overpays, Danks ain't going nowhere, and I doubt Garland will be moved for the same reasons as Vazquez, so by the process of elinimation that means goodbye Jose.

I'm sure you don't mind doing the work, but you might want to hold off on the contract page. You and I both know it's going to change again in the next two weeks.

Yeah, I know. But the work will have to be done eventually anyway. It's not all that hard to change the names and info but it's a b**** to put the thing together.
