FlaSoxxJim
Yep. It's a FanFic. I've been duped. Oh, well, I can wait another 25.5 hours with everyone else.
FlaSoxxJim
Well, I was able to unarchive the page-by-page scanned version, but I think trying to read it will give me a headache. Looks like I wait.
Gregory Pratt
If you're reading the super long one, Jim, you're reading the real one. The other "leak" was just five or so pages and so when people say, "There's one or two versions out" that's true but not really.

Gregory Pratt
It's about 95% sure that the version I read -- which I'm assuming is yours, too, Jim -- is for real. The writing is exactly like Rowling's, the plot sticks up, explanations are had. There are no signs of forgery on the document. Rumor's been that Rowling released a fake one to f*** with people, but I doubt that very much. She released a whole book that conveniently follows everything perfect and makes a ton of sense? No way. QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) Ummmm, Flaxx's post I quoted? QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) Yeah, I was addressing him. Sorry. I initially downloaded the 73MB torrent that is supposed to be all the pages of HP7 photographed, but I ran into an unlock authorization code issue trying to unzip it on a Mac. After I had seen a couple of sites say that a transcription from the photos had been completed I found torrents for both a txt and a pdf purporting to be HP7 and that's what I started reading and was pretty impressed by. Then another news story noted conflicting chapter names for chapter 10 in two different leaked versions made me doubt the authenticity of what I was reading because the chapter 10 in my file had neither of those names. Some quick Googlemonkeying confirmed that I was in fact reading "The Seventh Horcrux" - a magnus opus fanfic by a hardcore Potter fan named Melindaleo that someone is now trying to pawn off as a leaked Deathly Hallows. For what it's worth I did finally get the zipped photo archive unlocked and I think this on is legit (chapter 10 is titled Kreacher's Tale, so we'll see if this one holds up). But the pages aren't even flatbed-scanned, they're photograpghed, so it's not worth even trying to struggle with knowing the book will be out in. . . 11 hours. Gregory Pratt
Yeah, "The Seventh Horcrux" was a fanfic. I read something completely different. For what it's worth, The Real Book is only available in pictures and PDF. In .rar, is what I mean, by pictures. Kreacher's Tale is in the book I read. And the book I read matches up perfectly with the NYT Review this morning.

Me too, but I told my advisor I had a previous engagement--so I would be unavailable Saturday and Sunday. And, I'm not going to lie, I did arrange to take my comps so they wouldn't interfere with the Harry Potter release date. I also just went and got my wrist-band to pick up the book tonight. Hurray. Gregory Pratt
You know, I have no intention of spoiling anything for anyone unless they want me to, but I've always taken issue with the term "spoiler" or whatever. In Greece, they used to tell and re-tell stories and the children would know stories before they'd read them or been told them formally because it wasn't about the story -- it was about the message, and what happens and all that. It was about the beauty of what was written, how. Remember Book Six? When Snape kills Dumbledore? You know, there was a famous spoiler involving that all over the Web. Well, I don't quite get it. "Snape kills Dumbledore," sure, you know what happens -- but you don't know why, you don't know how, you don't know any context or meaning or any of the other million things that occur. If I tell you right now that Fenrir Greyback eats all of Hogwarts' House Elves and that puts a curse on Voldemort, I'd be lying, but why should that spoil the book for anyone? I know some people who learned something or other and are now like, "s***, I'm not reading! Waah waah!" It's crazy as can be. (I mentioned Snape/DD from Book Six because that was years ago and it doesn't count, IMO, as a spoiler anymore than if I mention Wormtail's betrayal of the Potters in book three or Mad-Eye Moody being a fake in book four or Sirius dying in book five. It's just an example.)

sox4lifeinPA
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 04:27 AM) This movie cut out so much of the book it was borderline ridiculous. Obviously you cant have everything from the book put into the movie but this one had so little and than the parts it didnt skip completely werent near complete at all. Overall I enjoyed the movie because Im a Harry Potter fan but they need a different director for the next. 100% disagree. The writers are the one's that handle content. This director made the Potter movies FINALLY have big screen clout. The first 4 were dull to look at (fun to be a part of the story no less)...but the 5th film finally had the visial edge it needed to compete with LOTR and Narnia, imo.
